Well, glad that my got a response. And glad to hear that the RL stuff that is keeping you busy is *mostly* good stuff.
I've been posting very little on hootoo recently, due to this and that. It just feels easier to unsub from certain threads than continue to deal with nonsense. And, like you, I've got a lot of RL stuff to keep me quite busy right now.
So maybe chat with you tomorrow while you are at work . . .

Looks like you may have to do a bit more recruiting for the new cabal (ahem, not cable) pic.
I've been having such a nice weekend. And 'new job' starts on Monday, which I'm quite looking forward to.
Still somewhat anxiously awaiting the rest of the test results - will have it all done by mid-August. Until then I imagine all sorts of thing that might be wrong . . .
Well, off to bed. The morning walks are going very well. Did I tell you I even bought new shoes for them? Groovy cool red suede Puma trainers . . . seriously cute. Oh, and comfy too.
Saw a man this morning wearing cycling gloves. It was about 30º. Go figure . . .
How was Burt?

I speeld it cable? ohm igod
Anthoo...
I take your point - the idea hasn't exactly been a resounding success; to date - no replies other than FB and echo suggesting I recycle their pics...
Glad to hear you're having a nice weekend - a great way to prepare for your 'new job'
re the test results - instead use that imagination of yours to paint a picture of sublime health... waddayagot to lose by positve thinking?
I'm due a spot of retail therapy myself tomorrow - not trainers but hiking boots - the 'end-of-winter-sales' are starting (of course they are, it is MID winter after all ) and conveniently, they have coincided with my re-awakened want/need to clamber up hills every morning
Cycling gloves when it's 30º: probably someone who has learned the hard way about skin grafts
Burt was Beaut! Great band - 3 horns (trombone, trumpet and sax), electric bass, drums, rhythm guitar and (grand) piano with five 'girls' on vocals - dressed v 60s - and the mix was perfect for the room, which is, sadly, an all too rare occurence - probably cos most sound techs are deaf!
I really am old! I knew almost every single song word for word
Amazed to realise how prolific he was - or rather is - apparently he's still on the road at the age of 76 or so! Maybe he went hill climbing every day?

Hmmmm, well how about doing a rough draft pic using photos you already have (or can find in the gallery) - even if they aren't all in profile. The ones of FB, Ivan and Noggin are in profile (and maybe some others). I think the photo that would work best for me is the second one in the gallery, the one where I'm holding Sunny.
Perhaps if you can show people the work in progress you might get a bit more response. And what about Dealer? It was *his* idea?
Just back from morning walk, must go shower now . . .

Anthoo, what do you know about webhosting, etc? Need something that will include a 'shopping basket', credit card use, etc. Any 'packages' you can recommend or is it better to put something together ourselves?

Yes, I was away and no, I didn't warn my friends properly and yes I'm sorry (but also pleasantly surprised) that this was a cause for concern
With apologies to Mark Twain...
The reports of my abandonating have been greatly exaggerated
I'm back!

Yeah well, no worries on that front.
Meanwhile, thought you'd find this quite funny.

Hey, some good news. Got in touch with Chris (webpage designer) to ask about a reputable geek to fix my problem and he said he couldn't really recommend anyone as he does all his own stuff himself - natch.
But then he offered to come round and have a look at it tomorrow.
He also said it sounds like it's probably one of the fans and that sometimes they grind for awhile but sort themselves out if you leave them running . . . though he did say he would not only check this out but also clean out the box.
Um, don't think he's as adverse to blowing as you are though as he told me he often blows on his fans to clean them off. But he agreed about the static electricity thing, though he said it's usually just as effective to touch something metal just before going into the computer.
Anthoo . . . will let you know what happens.

Pedantically speaking, he's right... "usually" (just as effective etc)
However... on all too many occasions, static HAS blitzed CPUs
Are you a gambler?
Anti-static wrist straps are cheap and easy to use
CPUs are relatively expensive and difficult to install - AND... if you _do_ need to install one, surely you'd use an anti-static strap
The 'touching metal' bit should be a PART of the technique - WHILST wearing an ASS (now there's an acronym! )
The 'don't blow' idea wasn't mine - I got it from someone I regard as a 'hardware expert', who suggested one of those wee puffer thingies that photographers use to clean cameras

Mind if I copy your az cabal pics into an album on my Fotki page? I was thinking of keeping all the cabal stuff together there.

FINALLY got the computer fan fixed today. It was the one in the 'fuente' box (Chris didn't remember the name of it in English - the power source box?). Anthoo, he took it all apart and we oiled the fan and now it is no longer growling. As for cleaning it out, you'll be disgusted to know that he just blew on everything real hard and blew most of the excess dust away. He said what is usually used is a high-power air thingy, so blowing in itself wouldn't do any damage, it just wouldn't be quite as effective. Meanwhile, he said all his PCs are way dustier inside than mine was.
He also said that the fan in the 'fuente' usually goes after a couple of years and in the end it is cheaper just to buy a new 'fuente' box if the fan can't be repaired (rather than buying a new fan). But so far it seems to be working okay. He charged me 30 euros, which seemed quite fair as he was here for over an hour. What do you think? Also, I watched and assisted him, so if it starts grinding again Chris said I could just do what he did or else buy a new 'fuente' box (he said he could find one for me cheap) and replace it myself if I didn't want to have to pay him to do it. I think he got the idea that I was pretty capable.
And he didn't even mind me constantly saying - 'well, my friend in NZ says you should do this/shouldn't do that'. He said that while he agreed with you in principle, he does this all the time and felt you were being a bit 'over cautious'. But later when I told him that you'd seen his Flamenco site and that you'd been very impressed his face really lit up. I think he really appreciated getting praise from another .
Still, it was rather an expensive morning as I also took Sunny to the vet's for his follow-up blood test, which cost about 45 euros including taxi fare. Still haven't heard back on the results. Big mistake going Saturday morning as the place was packed out and we had to wait an hour just to see Maria and get the blood taken. So rather than keep Sunny waiting any longer (the poor thing was terrified and just wanted to GO HOME) she said she'd call me later and let me know if he needed further treatment. Though she is almost sure he is going to have to stay on at least one of the meds for the rest of his life.
Meanwhile, as I just told MoG, I am 'back in the saddle' once again. Out of bed and up and running. Last night I watched a film that a student of mine lent me yesterday and it quite inspired me. Will tell you more about that later . . .
