fish pond v algee

My mission is to be able to see and enjoy the 
in my pond..which is currently a pea-green colour..the dreaded algee..
..it is a small pond (3ft x 4ft)..with no pump or filter..it seems an impossible task to keep water clear or even semi-clear..i've tried barley straw..with no sucess..so if anyone knows the magic solution to banishing algee..i'd like to 'hear' it..&..my would benifit from living in more pleasant environment..
