I notice that, like me, you have a score on Rate My Teacher. (I found you, but you won't know where to look for me.)
How do you feel about this? Part of me thinks that I don't give a after all my years in teaching, but the other part is quite angry about the whole site.

I was exceedingly pissed off when I found it over the summer, although having a laugh about it in the staffroom with my mates (who are mostly also on there) put it in some perspective.
I emailed the NAS as soon as I found it - they agreed that it was largely not a good idea, but they didn't want to draw publicity to the site by openly condemning it.

Well, it's been in the press already. My school has the site blocked for access during the day, which is something I suppose.
I've checked out friends at other schools too and I notice a lot of comments were added during study leave or just after the exams so thats's an added factor. Kids didn't revise but it must be someone else's fault. I also assume that parent comments are probably made up by the little s too.

Thankfully, the only comment on mine is that I'm a 'dude'. This apparently does not now have the positive connotation that it did in the Seventies.

I don't have comments just ratings. However, I've canvassed the opinion of all the teenagers currently sitting on my sofa and "dude" isn't that bad.

It's definitely bad in Gloucester. I don't know why.

Origin of the word: "n : a man who is much concerned with his dress and appearance". I can't say that applies to many teachers!

Even if the kids don't rate us, someone else is going to. http://observer.guardian.co.uk/politics/story/0,6903,1567312,00.html

Jesus! Did anyone work out that some schools might be failing because the kids aren't up to scratch?
I can't think of any job where there is such a multitude of ways for people to complain about you, short of being an MP.

"Did anyone work out that some schools might be failing because the kids aren't up to scratch?"
Apparantly not. Besides, it would be a teachers fault if they weren't. So that's alright then.
You're right, there's no other job like it for getting complaints.
Except perhaps... England manager?

Would that be the same England manager who gets paid 4 million a year?
I think I could cope with that.

He's a legend in my house. In fact, when we did our last shopping list and I wrote "milk" on it, you can probably guess what one of my daughters wrote next to it.

She might be right, but he makes it far too easy and does initiate a lot of it. Mind you, I did manage to get an apology out of him. Eventually. I just didn't rise to his baiting about being hostile, because I wasn't. F2095978?thread=916377&skip=20&show=20 from #35.
I might pop by and see if he's read the pages yet.

At least if you get a week off you'll be able to get all your marking done on time. Maybe they'll just put a few *** in and leave the message.
