Sent little care packages to the offspring today-chocolate advent calendars, Christmassy pyjamas, and some flavoured coffee sachets, part of a long standing joke. Hope the parcels survive the journey!

Bea's Bargains 16.11

On Sunday, we visited a local Outlet Mall. It has recently opened a new super-sized Tesco, we reckon in an attempt to attract shoppers from The South.

There are quite a few empty units, but one of my favoruites, L K Bennett, is still going, and I was delighted to pick up a couple of heavily discounted items there.

A skirt, in black and white fine tweed, down from £145 to £20. It'll be lovely with black boots, jumper and a statement necklace.

A perspex cuff, in black with bling crystal detail. Also down from £145 to £20, and with an additional 20% discount applied bringing it down to £16. Would anyone really pay over £100 for a piece of plastack?

Bwa haha that is.

We went to see One Man Two Guvnors last night, and the rest of this journal may contain spoilers.

I like musicals and dance, but Rog prefers comedy, so we'd chosen thus play for a date night. I've recently become a friend of the grand opera house, and one of the benefits was a pair of free tickets to a show. I'd chosen good seats in the stalls to be able to see the actors facial expressions -dance and opera benefit from a view point higher up on the theatre.
Actually, there was music. A live skiffle band is on stage or in the pit throughout, and each of the actors plays a "guest appearance" role during the scene changes. I particularly enjoyed the 3 female actors doing a Beverly Sisters style number.

The play is a farce, and relies heavily on physical comedy and slapstick. It also uses audience participation, including some very well acted and believable "plants".

In London the eponymous one man was originally played by James corden, but it was a relative unknown to me actor in this touring version. Regardless, he was astonishingly good, and I haven't laughed so much in ages. Well worth catching it if it comes your way ( Dublin next week....)

Dem Bea's 14.11

I'm a member of a dancing display team, and we get lots of requests to do demonstrations (dems) for nursing homes. smiley - nurse

It was the first one of this season today. They are popular in the run up to Christmas, when we sometimes adorn our outfits with tinsel and reindeer antlers.smiley - reindeer This afternoon I made a few small mistakes, but nothing too obvious - the trick is to keep smiling and don't let on!

Our teacher always gets me to do a twirl and to say a few words about my Titanic tartan sash.

The programme today was:

Homecoming - we always start with this one.
Scott Meikle - a fairly new dance, written by musician George Meikle, who I've met.
Bonnie Tree - a slower Strathspey
Reel of the 51st Division - a very popular dance devised by soldiers in WW2, and originally thought to be a coded message smiley - smiley
Culla Bay - a strathspey done in a square set
75 years on - this starts with the 3rd and 4th couples crossing over so that they are on the opposite sides.
The Irish Rover - we always finish with this one, and the music we use is a medley of well known tunes like Long Way to Piccadilly, and Pack Up Your Troubles, which always goes down well with the audience.smiley - goodluck

Tonight was supposed to be busy-Hekens bay class which is a good 20 miles each way, but I love the teacher and class. And I'd said id call I to dundela class en route-it was a beginners class last year, but has proved viability and is our newest "proper" class this year. As treasurer, I had some paper work to drop off to their venue in St marks, which was C S Lewis's church.

Sadly, the rain started this afternoon. It rained, and it rained and it rained. And then it rained some more. My journey home was precarious, with several heavily flooded sections, and more than one broken down vehicle. By the time I'd made it home safely, I was ready for a bath, and an evening catching up with Sue perkins and guy Martin.
