actually he claims to be a person that has discovered an androids approach to and perception of the concept of humour. the android of couse has no idea of what humour (in particular irony and rhetorical questions and the like) is - which makes the whole thing even more hilarious

plus it is quite an exciting scifi novel. much in the style of douglas adams. i'm sure he would have appreciated it. he used to work with python, you know.
