Arthur's most (un)fortunate discovery

"Incidentally," he said, "what does teleport mean?"
Another moment passed.
Slowly, the others turned to face him.
"Probably the wrong moment to ask," said Arthur, "It's just I remember you used the word a short while ago and I only bring it up because..."
"Where," said Ford quietly, "does it say teleport?"
"Well, just over here in fact," said Arthur, pointing at a dark control box in the rear of the cabin, "Just under the word "emergency", above the word "system" and beside the sign saying "out of order"."

Arthur coping with certain death as best as he could.
Arthur: "You know, it's at times like this, when I'm trapped in a Vogon airlock with a man from Betelgeuse, and about to die from asphyxiation in deep space that I really wish I'd listened to what my mother told me when I was young."
Ford: "Why, what did she tell you?"
Arthur: "I don't know, I didn't listen."

Another day, another quote

Arthur after his first ever teleport ride.
Ford - "How do you feel?"
Arthur - "Like a military academy, bits of me keep passing out."
Ford - "We're safe,"
Arthur - "Oh good"
Ford - "We're in a small galley cabin, in one of the spaceships of the Vogon Constructor Fleet."
Arthur - "Ah, this is obviously some strange usage of the word 'safe' that I wasn't previously aware of."
I think that military academy line is probably my favourite one out of all the books. Big call, but I think it is.

This is one of my favourites....it's just so good. I remember when I first read it, till my mid teens, I never quit understood it, until one day I was on the bus to school in the morning, and it came to me. I didn't stop laughing till lunch time.

Ford: "You'd better be prepared for the jump into hyperspace. It's unpleasantly like being drunk"
Arthur: "What's so unpleasant about being drunk?"
Ford: "You ask a glass of water"
