i direct you to puddle of mudd: with wes 'ill ditch my orignal band cos fred durst told me to' broland and he fact that all these bands are found and cultured and launched on us by cynical marketing men. where did blink 182 come from? they appeared overnight about 3 years ago. i remember suddenly seeing them pasted everywhere. they are forced down our throughts by being overplayed on the radio and mtv and sposering things. this isnt about how good or bad they are, its about the fact that they become global sperstars for no reason but that they make money(new found glory dont have a pot to piss in talentwise, but they tap the current trend, despite only having been formed about 3 seconds ago)
basically, there is excess demand so more bands are 'found' and given to us...

I think it's important to draw a line between the mainstream and the underground here. I'm first to admit that Blink-182 are a cheesy mass-market pop group, and personally I cannot stand their music. However, their actions don't apply to the entire punk rock genre. Indeed, bands that use punk as step-up to fame and riches are often shunned, even hated, by many people within the underground punk scene (ie. the true punk scene).
There are still plenty of bands that haven't 'sold out', and who remain true to their real punk rock roots and ethics. These bands play punk rock simply because they want to, and for the enjoyment, rather than for money or success.

I'll tell you where Blink 182 came from - Kung Fu Records - The album released which was really popular was 'Enema Of The State' with things like 'All the small things' and 'what's my age again'. This was like they're 3rd or 4th album...... its just that came out on MCA, not a small time Punk label.
And Puddle of Mudd is Nu metal. Please NEVER get Punk and nu metal mixed up, its insults me greatly

Oh, and NFG have been around for ages too..... i'll ignore the 'no talent' thing......

Just because the band used to be on an independent punk label doesn't automatically guarantee them exemption from being labelled as mass-market pop music, I'm afraid. If anything, the fact that Blink-182 left Kung-Fu for a money-grabbing major label affirms their status as sell outs.
In my opinion, Puddle of Mudd aren't punk... but I'm afraid nor are Blink-182.

I never said I disagreed with what you said, cos you were right in my veiw.... okay I think Blink are good cos I'm easily pleased like that, its got a nice rythm and everything.... but Buddah was a better album of what ive heard.....
(I am the first (well, second apparantly) to admit Blink are manufactured money-grabbers, but you'd do the same wouldn't you? C'mon, see it from their veiw as humans...)

Fine, the are more pop-punk...but still punk...
Apparently, Buddah was not a very good album - Chesire Cat is basically Buddah, but better.

Blink fills up most of my shelf...I know, I'm sad...I have managed to get a hold of every one of their albums apart from Buddah...

In conclusion:
I don't know what I'd do in their position; it'll never happen, anyway, so I don't think it matters. The point is that I don't like Blink-182 for their actions as a band.
I'm not going to define 'punk', as it means something different for everyone; that's the whole point. If anyone thinks that Blink-182 are punk, then fine, that's your opinion, I don't care. I don't like the same music, and have the same opinions, as many people, so I certainly wouldn't hold something as petty as my dislike of Blink-182 against you

From what ive heard of it, you have a teensy gap in your collection and Buddah should fill it (CD racks/ shelves always accommodate more Albums if strenched+squeezed....)
