Apparition™ (Mourning Empty the best uncle anyone could wish for)

I know your problem

Lentilla does things like answer retohical questions and can be condesending on this topic.

"Sorry, Kasese, but you're getting my back hairs up. Like I've said many times before, I enjoy a good, well-rounded discussion. Your statement added nothing new, and makes you sound bitter and shallow.

I'd like to point out that ever since Sept. 11th, the quotient of Americans to Europeans on this site has dropped sharply. I would say that it was the unending torrent of hatred at discussions like this one that drove many of them away. That's terrible. We're all human beings here, and to condemn somebody outright because of where they live is, well, provincial. "

I suppose that my anger and annoyance towards America is somewhat directed primarily to the Americn Government and their foreign policies. However, After Sept. 11th, Canadians donated food, clothing BLOOD, firefighters went down to volunteer at Ground Zero etc. etc. We brought stranded airline passengers into our homes when their planes were diverted leaving their passengers stranded for days on end. What do we get in return from Mr. Bush? barely a thankyou. WhenThe Canadian Anthem was being played in NewYork at a hockey game, our team was bood. How soon they forget.

I just happened upon this! I have stated elsewhere on this site that US Gov did NOT thank Canada or Australia or support either in their times of need, support, grief. I do hope the individuals helped were better behaved and thankful to their hosts.smiley - sadface It makes this American very sad smiley - sadface It is a bit lonely in America and the world for this American. There is a lot of antiamerican stuff around here. I stay in h2g2 in part, because I do not go with the flow. I wanted to know more about others. I love my country in spite of being embarrassed and depressed by it. I do hope for common sense and heart in our leaders to come. Thank God for term limits.smiley - sadfacesmiley - yikes That will be the next to go at this rate.

I'd like to think of you as an enigma however, The majority of Americans don't recognize the contributions that Canadians have made to both the American economy and to world Peace efforts. We are not a super-power but weare your closest allie. BUT! because we don't match your super military capabilities, we are looked upon as the 51st State. Our present Prime Minister is perhaps one of the most outspoken in many generations in regards to our Soverianty but he doesn't have to convince Canadians to believe him, he just has to make our neighbours listen. As WE become closer to the brink of war in the Middle East, Canada's role, in said wa, is even more under the microscope. Personally, I hope that we abstain because there is no economic ,or ETHICAL benefit to us. The world community, in general ,realizes that the feud betweeen Iraq and the US is not about Weapons of Mass Destruction, but is merely a power struggle over OIL. No matter what the the UN Inspectors say, Mr. Bush long ago decided that he wanted to go to war with the man"who tried to kill my Daddy" How juvenile can one get? Perhaps it's time for another revolution within the U.S. in order to get rid of the Republican self-righteous. K

I think a lot of Americans do not give Canada much thought until things go very wrong here (wars and war-like acts)). Most are just glad Canada is nothing to *worry* about.Thats all well and good but we should be more neighborly, all the way around. Canada should not be ignored or worse, punished for being more peaceful and open!

That may be a good generalization, but not all of us american feel that way. THe fact is, most americans barely recognize that anything exists beyond their borders unless the idiots in washington (I don't mean everyone in the US government is an idiot, but many of them are) tell them that we need to attack someone.
