Reminds me of the call to the police department that kept getting disconnected when the officer tried to transfer my call, each of the three times. On my fourth call he gave me the number for the particular department followed by 'And, you have a nice evening Ma'am, and Monday morning I will be in phone class. smiley - biggrin

Call, transfer my call...

While talking to another police officer a year or two before that, I told him 'I have a question'. His reply was 'Great, let's have 'em, I always have answers.'.

That was about the time I sang that song in a nursing home. When we got to "Bicycle built for two," one of the patients got up and sang the second verse for us. She was good, too! smiley - applause

1982, summer I was just done with 9th grade which was jr. High for us. Tenth grade was across the street at RHS. I read as much as possible all summer: ''Lord of the Rings (all three)'', The unabridged and annotated, ''Swiss Family Robinson'', ''Complete Short Stories of Mark Twain'', and whatever else my brothers left at our parent's house when they moved out including ''The Illustrated Man and the text book for Science Fiction as Literature (college level). I had already read the first three ''Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy'' books, that May.

My mom would sing old songs. She was born in 1930. She also sang the older hillbilly twangy country music. All of which was sung equally poorly.

Old time "country" music was collected by Alan Lomax and a few others, and released as folk music.

Is that the same collection of folk music that Leadbelly (Huddie Ledbetter) was released from jail on the condition that he help with the collecting and recording of songs for a couple of years?

What my mother liked was twangy Tennessee accents and banjos. This is probably why I spent a great deal of my summers outside with pets smiley - dog and smiley - blackcat and books.
