Welcome to h2g2! I'm Shorty, and I'm an ACE, which stands for Assistant Community Editor. Basically I come and greet newbies to the site, and try to help them find their way around, as it can be kinda overwhelming at first. Errr... Hi Shorty! Really really meant to write this earlier. I originally thought that this was one of those automated hi there messages that you get on these things, and that as in a lot of places, people with letters after their names either don't really exist, or only pop up when they want to tell you to stop being an arse!
It hasn't actually taken me that long to figure out that h2g2 isn't that sort of community, it's just taken me this long to get around to apologising for hitting so far from the mark! So, 
Thanks very much for the welcome, and all that, see you back in the thingite boards!

No problem. I know a lot of people think the messages are automated, but we have to go out and find newbies and greet them ourselves. Some people copy and paste their welcome messages-I don't. I wonder if maybe I should start out saying "No, this is not an automated message"?
