Pin, I'm going to be in England from May 20 - June 4. It would be wonderful to meet you, if possible.

I'm going to the Chelsea Flower Show. smiley - biggrin And punting in Oxford. And the regular touristy things. There will be a curry meet in Bradford. And a meet for denizens of Lil's in London.

Hey, we should.
Let me know your itinerary when you have it.
Most of those places are a bit far south, but your route to/from Bradford is probably going to pass within a few miles of here.
So long as you're travelling by road, it'll be a snip.
(Not recommended if travelling by train, however)

I know I'll be in Leeds for a couple of days at Amy's. And it's possible I'll take the train to Scotland - just so I can say I've been. smiley - smiley And I'll be at Ben's for a while.

As soon as I get a schedule worked our, I'll e-mail it to you. smiley - smiley

Hey Pin, do you have an opinion yet about the possible dates I mailed you for the UFoB meet? I just heard from Waz. I think she sent us the same e-mail. smiley - smiley

I just sent one too.
I've got to make a work-trip, meaning that if you'd like to come here it'd have to be the second date you mentioned.
Would that cause you a day's limbo up North?
Or I could travel. There are a few no-no days but definitely possibilities.
See what the others say, yeah?

Hey Hyp
It was great to meet. Just lounging and talking wasn't too boring, was it? Only I got the impression you could probably use a breather.
I hope you enjoy(ed?) your last few days this side of the pond.

(I asked a friend-who'd-know today whether he'd heard of the use of shot-rock in UK buildings, and he'd heard of a church built from it. I'll try find more)

The just lounging around and talking bit was great, actually.

I enjoyed my trip, but am glad to be home. Be it ever so humble and all that. It was nice to finally see some of the places I've read about. I would enjoy returning the hospitality, but as there is very little of interest around here I can't imagine anyone wanting to visit. We would have to do lots of day trips. That's the thing I like the least about where I live - no one ever wants to visit. Ben might come one of these days.

Shot rock makes a nice building. There must be a few of them in the UK somewhere. smiley - smiley

It was wonderful meeting you. I was far from at my best by that point. smiley - laugh They nearly ran my legs off. Then I caught that blasted cold. I'm still coughing.

Hey Pin, thanks for your support in the election. It means a lot to me and the badge boy. smiley - hug Another few days for voting and then we'll know if I'm destined for greatness or not. smiley - laugh

Pleasure, Hypatia!smiley - biggrin

I've been exceptionally good and only voted once. Even the UG Archivist has remained inert (come to think of it, he does that quite a lot). All the Pier-crowd have sat on their flippers, pinions, hammers and other appendages and just left it to me. Just as it should be.

(Speak was going to vote for Gnomon anyway. In the end, he decided not to vote at all, on the grounds that the real Voice of Reason wouldn't be seen dead in this place).

I do hope you win. We need a big-hearted and broad-minded figurehead. It's as simple as that.

I am more often described as broad-beamed. smiley - erm Seriously, I find that I have become much more broad-minded and accepting as I have gotten older. Which amazes me since both of my parents went in the opposite direction. I fully expected to turn into my mother. smiley - laugh

...Ahem...

Well done, ma'am.

However, I have to inform you that a disgusting little oik of our mutual acquaintance now appears to think that he is destined to become the Presidential Seal. I sincerely hope that you will have more sense than to let Pinniped anywhere near a podium. (I suppose nailing him firmly to the front of a lectern does have its attractions, but even so this would be in doubtful taste).

While I'm at it, my I also beseech you to watch that sheep carefully? My bane is lazier than your bane, and smells worse, but they have traits in common, and that should be warning enough.

Still, we shouldn't dwell on such things at this happy time, should we? Best wishes for a fruitful term from all at the Pier.

Yours,

I have had need of my Presidential Seal twice already. I can forsee using said seal regularly. I can't imagine actually needing a smiley - blacksheep on the other hand. Especially as I have promised not to turn him into kebobs. And we all know that no one ever needs a vice president. smiley - whistle

Hey, Hyp...

Remember that book I gave you about Sheffield's Flying Fortress?

Well, I just drove Verminette to a Firework Party (Brits do that on 5 Nov as I'm sure you've heard). This party is on the west side of the city, right behind Endcliffe Park where Mi Amigo came down. As we drove alongside the park in the darkness, there were fire-trails and streams of sparks rising beyond the fateful hill, and my spine tingled.

There are times when history comes looking for you. I hope you won't mind if I write an Entry about Mi Amigo. The story has many resonances that make me think of you : Sheffield's friendship with the US, an unsung hero from Missouri, your husband's WW2 military service in Europe.

I might also contact Phred (or whatever he now calls himself - Firebucket or something) and Farlander, practised chroniclers of American aviation both.
