In awe I am.
Have you read Julian Barnes' A History of The World in 10 1/2 Chapters?
BTW

... in case you need a link.

Thanks DMT
No, the only thing I've read by JB is "England, England". Good, but not in my pantheon.
You'll have to tell me the relevance of the other book sometime - but not till I ask. This piece has another purpose.
And you must be psychic with the link!

Are we getting this next?

Hopes.
Depressed all day I was after reading Gorgon. With heavy heart work I could not.

Do you know anything of the machinations of h2g2? How come this conversation does not appear on your conversation list?

Hi DrMT
It's because I unsubscribed.
Which is not supposed to be any kind of slight. Like I said, I made a promise about this piece. I'd rather not draw too much attention to it, not just yet anyway.
Don't worry - I'll watch out and answer if you Post.

I understand this is a no-hoper for the EG too? Never mind ... , it's most certainly one of the best and most compelling articles I've read on h2g2. Good work. I have established it as a target of quality to which to aspire. And it is educational too. Had me reaching for my Hansen's.
Did you ever think of submitting this for real life $$$ publication before giving it to h2g2? It's daunting to think that this would have earned a rejection slip.
I see your Dad (good on 'im) is campaigning for a "creative" reading/writing corner in the DNA hub. He's right of course. h2g2 has these corners of mischief (AWW, Post, etc.) but their subplots aren't they? You just have to look at the AWW page to see that it only gets about 30-50 hits a week.
So, if you remain desperate to get into EG without compromising, I suggest you do as (I think) Dr Funderlick suggested to you. Which is to use your obvious skill to bend the rules as far as they go. The collaborative Bog Roll thing we did was one example. A998139 is another.
Keep up the good work.
Trout
PS The reason I wanted you to read JB's History of the World is that it contains the story of the Medusa from (I think) Savigny's perspective. And a description of the painting itself. Plus the book is a series of tenuously linked short stories seemingly based around the sea. I thought you'd enjoy that.
All the best.

Within a click of PR you were. Then I bottled. But it's tempting.

I wouldn't, not yourself. If someone a bit further afield chooses to, then so be it.
I went straight to the Towers with Gorgon. I suggested that there was no point in Peer Review, because the Scouts have been trained to destroy this stuff. Instead, I offered them a vision of a better EG.
The refusals progressed from polite to bad-tempered, and I backed off.
Their loss. Someday, the Community itself will fill the hole at the middle of h2g2. The hole where a Champion with a Soul should be.
Keep at it Trout. We can stop Douglas spinning yet.

*You read EPR5? My little back-kick over that particular rejection *

EPRV ... Yes I did, it's cleverly done.
In truth, I'm not really in the business of changing h2g2, just myself. If it evolves it evolves. If it doesn't so what. Anyway, I'd be happy to see the EG complete and encyclopaedic as a useful reference, (information flatpack in Funderlik's words) but it'll probably not happen in my lifetime. My fear is that no-one uses or will use it, especially if it's full of blunders, some of which I've been guilty of myself. But if that's what their I-nesses are paid to produce, then so be it, and good luck to them. It's their site after all.
With Fitzroy BTW, I hope I'm not one of the infantry going over the top at Ypres.
Trout.
Here's my next project ... Having a Barbie
Fornication with a rumpy-curved plastic blonde in the style of Pamela Anderson is, alas, not on the menu. This is about eating flesh al fresco and the elaborations sometimes undertaken therefor ...

Point taken. Each to his own bag.
Which kind of leads to my next point. Doncha think the artificial-Pamela-Anderson version might be more interesting?

Besides, I meant "plastic" in the figurative (or partial) sense rather than literally.

Yep.
Somewhere between Houtman's Abrolhos and those shoals off Senegal lies the Edge of the World. As defined by hootoo Editors, that is...
