Heya Dove!! smiley - biggrin
So why the name Dove then? I'm sorry, I'm being nosy, you don't have to tell me. smiley - smiley

Anyway... I'm an ACE (Assistant Community Editor), and basically what I'm supposed to do is say hello and generally be nice to new people like yourself. smiley - smiley You can say hello to the other ACEs at the homepage On the other hand you can ignore us completely... smiley - sadface
If you have any questions ask away! I can do my best to answer them. smiley - smileysmiley - biggrin
Don't worry if it takes you a while to get back... I have a plentiful if not endless supply of smiley - donuts and smiley - cake and will sit here eating them until you return. smiley - biggrin And do have a doughnut or some cake yourself. smiley - smiley
*offers smiley - donut and smiley - cake*

I am so phsyched about this site, and I've only been here for a day.
There are so many great things to do here that I am taking my time just to learn all about them. I've spent 5 hours so far in this site alone and I am still only in the 3rd page of the guided tour to the guide.
I admire the thought of personally greeting new members.
I do have several q if you will be so kind to answer me:
How many titles are there here? {I know researcher, ACE and I've noticed several weird ones as well}.
What's the diference between the edited to the non-edited guide and how can you tell them appart?
Is it dificult to write eith the simbols? {do you need to learn programming, need to change your preferences or something}.

To answer your q's:
Dove is the nick of my favorite basketball player. The thing is that there are like 10 people in the world who know this. Another thing is that when i enter under this nick people think I am a girl.

About me not being here, I leave tommorow for a week and return only on next monday so it's only temporary.

Anyway, you are more then kind and I hope I'll catch you during several of the things and conversations on the net.

LOL! You're addicted already! You didn't take much time! smiley - winkeyesmiley - biggrinsmiley - biggrin

OK, questions.
There are Gurus. They generally know a lot about the Guide and it's structure and everything in general. If you have a question that no one seems able to answer, find a Guru and ask them. If they can't help then they'll ask the relevant person who should know and get back to you. smiley - smiley
There are Scouts. When a person has written a guide entry that they want to go into the Edited Guide, they post it in the Peer Review forum and the Scouts check it out. If they think it is good enough to go into it they recommend it, and usually provide constructive criticism and praise whatever.
There are Sub-Editors. Once an Entry has been recommended it goes into a que to be Subbed. This is basically adding GuideML if it needs to be done, and correcting things like grammar and spelling. They'll find links that are relevant to the Entry.
There are also University Researchers. They are involved in a new project in which researchers collaborate to produce a group of Entries on the same subject.

The difference between the unedited and Edited Guide is that Edited entries have passed a reviewing system and have been deemed suitable to go into the Edited Guide. Almost all entries put forward for inclusion in the Edited Guide get there, though some need work done to it first, and there is the Writing Workshop to provide help with that. smiley - smiley The unedited guide doesn't necessarily contain only articles on subjects - there are campaigns, virtual pubs, meeting places, etc etc. smiley - smiley

To put the smileys and symbols into your posts, have a look at

Hope that explains it all... smiley - smiley

Ahhh... I see. Yes, I know what you mean, because of my nickname people think I'm male... smiley - winkeye

OK, enjoy whatever it is you're doing till then, then. smiley - smiley
