i see that the musicians' guild is currently being run by danny and his sidekick farlander. what ho! bring out the blasters and the swords, you tackle the leader of the opposition and his merry men while i stand to one side cracking jokes smiley - winkeye

(i practically fell off the chair laughing when i read that bit smiley - laugh)

by the way, the 'guitar-related injuries' article looks good (i've just gone to have a look at it). i look forward to the day it hits the front page and leaves people rolling on the floor laughing their heads off at the misadventures of us poor sods who have suffered for the sake of our art....

cheers,
your sidekick smiley - winkeye

You may stand to one side cracking jokes, but just remember - the sidekick *never* gets the girl smiley - winkeye

Post 3

assuming, of course, the sidekick *wants* the girl in the first place smiley - winkeye they just never show what happens *after* the hero marries her...

i'll take the wisecracks, cheese on the side smiley - tongueout

in response to your last posting *and* your latest nickname: i am currently playing the french horn in the orchestra. what with my slide-whistle-with-delusions-of-graudeur and frenching a horn, i don't need much else in my life.

Post 7

you're kidding. er, right? smiley - erm

let's see... two nights a week at choir practice. one night for band practice, one night for orchestra practice. that leaves me with the weekend. take away one day for gruelling practice at home, and another for overtime at the lab... that leaves me with - what? smiley - yikes

speaking of which, the choir competition is tomorrow - aargh! i'd better not type too much today...

oh, and by the way, one of our new members, andrew soane, has an article he'd like to contribute to the guild (A1154387 - it's about franz joseph haydn as a desert island choice). i don't think he's likely to send it to pr because it's a very opinion-based article, but it's a pretty good read all the same. do we accept non-eg articles? have a look at it when you have the time.

smiley - cheers

I've listed the article on the 'Directory' page. You could suggest that he submits it to smiley - thepost - they regularly take that sort of opinion piece.

Hello smiley - smiley

Just noticed your name (and Personal Space) - what's suddenly happened to turn you away from research then? Especially given your footnote that your results are always good enough not to need faking. I *really* hope that's meant to be sarcastic smiley - tongueout

sidekickin'

Post 11

Farlander

nope, that's plain truth and not sarcasm - my results *are* good enough that they don't need an appointment with my graphics tablet smiley - biggrin

the truth is that (ah well, for want of better words...) (1) my bosses suck big time, and (2) i'm tired of this whole we'll-give-you-funding-if-you-give-us-products rot. so... unless my old lecturer booster wants to take me on, or cambridge offers me a full scholarship (dream on!), i really don't see myself doing a phd in molecular biology/medical science. (oh, and did i mention that i have pipettophobia? smiley - winkeye)

(oh, btw, i'm working on a new article called 'mozart's death: madness, accident or disease?' - A1236686. give me a couple of days to finish it before you come over to have a look)

sidekickin'

Post 12

Farlander

oh, sorry, that should have been A1233686. it's done, by the way - i've submitted it to pr.

sidekickin'

Post 13

Danny B

I'm sure if I'd ever got any results they wouldn't have needed 'manipulating' smiley - erm And I sympathise about the pipettophobia smiley - yikessmiley - run

I'll try to read the Mozart piece, but I'm going away this week, so may not get round to it as I've got a whopping great list of things to do before I go smiley - tongueout

i see you have abandoned the horns and started counting trombones. why have you not gone mad yet?

You have something against trombones..?

Perhaps counting trombones is like counting sheep..?

hey, i'm a *trombonist*, remember? smiley - winkeye it's just that most of the folks i know who had not previously played a brass instrument walked away from their first encounter with one permanently traumatised in some way. my friend audrea, for instance, still has the same ghastly recurring nightmares of me emptying the contents of my slide onto her head. ('course i never *did* that. i just threatened to once...)

Do I detect a 'Trombone-related Injuries' Entry in the making? smiley - winkeye

sidekickin'

Post 18

Farlander

i imagine it would involve a lot of 'ramming slide against mouth at subsonic speed' injury complaints! smiley - winkeye although there was the one time when i was forced to play a bass trombone with two triggers, and got bitten by the slide on its way into first position... my hand wouldn't stop bleeding smiley - erm

By the way, I'm on holiday at the moment, so can you keep keeping an eye on the Guild. I might get chance to log in occasionally, but won't be able to spend long online.

happy vacationing! smiley - cheers
