Hi Danny,

I enjoyed your article on the University of Cambridge, but I am confused by your paragraph refering to the founding of Downing College. You state; "The 19th Century opened with the founding of a new College, the first time this had happened since Sidney Sussex in 1596. The new College - Downing - was founded by Sir George Downing, who also gave his name to London's Downing Street...

Oddly enough I was reading an article about Samuel Pepys and it refered to the same George Downing, now Pepys lived in the 17th century, so I checked for more information on George Downing (http://www.number-10.gov.uk/output/page178.asp) and can confirm that he could not have founding Downing College in the 19th Century.

My further research shows that it was George Downing's grandson that founded the college (see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Downing_College%2C_Cambridge).

I hope that helps.

Regards

Kate
