10k? Good for you!

Noticed your tagline and thought I'd come here to wish you all the best. You should be proud of yourself already, even though the race hasn't begun. I'm trying to get back into running after a set-back, so I know that 10k is no mean feat.

smiley - applause

Hey thanks smiley - smiley I've managed to cover the distance in one go with no stops and no walking three times so far. the good thing about doing my first ever 10k is there is no pressure to beat my previous personal best smiley - biggrin

Are you following a training plan? I know a few people doing couch to 5k at the moment which seems like a good regime - but due to the kids I can't really run that often. I only get out for one run a week and have to get the rest of my cardio on the bike with the boys in the trailer so am not expecting great things from the race - fully expect to come in last!

First, or last, the point is crossing the finish line - all those people who clap and take photos when the winner comes in have just stood beside the finish line all the way through - they haven't even completed the course!

I'm piecing together my own training plan with elements of ones like the couch to 5k, but not strictly following one, no. I've found that it works better for me when I 'listen to my body' (god I hate that phrase smiley - laugh).

Well I did it, managed to run the whole way and set a reasonably respectable pace. Was really lucky with the weather so it was a lovely day - course had a few horrible hills, the first 1k was up a *massive* hill which slowed me down a great deal even though I managed to keep 'running' and we came down the same hill to finish so have knackered my knees slightly but managed an impressive sprint finish. 61 minutes 46 seconds isn't a bad time for a first effort with hills, looking for a flatter one now for a month or two's time.

I can see how this can get addictive, I just wish I could train more often than once a week!

How is your training coming along?
