Haven't seen you about much, so was wondering how things are going with your family?
Oh yes, and I had a dream about you last night. And I think you should be ashamed of yourself!

What did I do? (Or shouldn't I be asking in public?)
Parents are fine, they seem pretty much resigned to the fact that they're going to be without a house for a while and all they've really lost is furniture - there's been nothing too irreplacable damaged.... Hopefully the insurance people will get their lives together and start things moving - they've already said that if it gets to be a problem living with my sister then the insurance will pay for alternative accomodation (whatever that is).
After a long discussion with my old man I'm not going across there for the moment - as you said in another thread, I'd just be getting under their feet.
The only real loss is likely to be the Campervan they had... it's a complete write off - and as its 12 years old they're not likely to get much out of the motor insurance company.

Well you were nearly a perfect gentleman, but very amorous. Don't ask me what it was all about, that's my inner brain trying to tell me something I should think, but I missed the point. I'll have to have another dream.
Glad to hear your folks are ok though. Once it's all over maybe they'll be happy with the new furniture. Shame about the campervan though, age aside it must have had lots of bits inside that they'll have to replace. I just hope it doesn't take too long to get it all sorted. Has the water gone now?

A perfect gentleman? Me????? Nah! You must have me mixed up with some other chubby, bearded redhead
On a more serious note...
Laaaaaaaaa!!!
The water's gone now - and I don't think they lost much in the way of 'personal' effects in the camper... it's just the buggerance factor of having to (or being able to) replace it - that's going to empty their bank accounts I suspect.

That's interesting, you weren't a redhead in my dream. But you were definitely you.
Have they moved back home yet? I bet it's a real mess, with soggy carpets, and condensation everywhere because of it. Yuk. I don't envy them at all! There must be loads for them to do.

Haven't spoken to them in a couple of days, but last I heard they were still at my sister's...
Not only soggy carpets... The floorboards have all sprung and the kitchen has exploded (or at least the cupboards have... MDF tends to expand when you soak it for an extended period).
Actually, they haven't got an awful lot to do themselves... Throw stuff out of the front door and wait for the council to come and pick it up... The heavy cleaning is the insurance company's problem.

I didn't realise MDF exploded! Still, not a lot of worry around here of flooding.
Maybe they should get Kim and Aggie in to clean up.

Well, they've picked up the keys for a new house for the next 6 months while the insurance company pick up the pieces...
It's 15 miles away from Carlisle, so it's going to be a pain in the neck for my mum to get to work, but at least its dry
So far the whole thing has cost my father about 3 or 4 thousand pounds - hopefully the insurance will be giving him most of it back again - but I'd hate to be one of those people without house insurance - they must really be up a creek without a paddle!

Will they cover your mum's travel expenses as well? That would be nice!
In the past I've never had contents insurance, I never thought I had much to replace, but when you think that everything would need to be replaced, possibly even floorboards! then you realise just how much it would cost. I've had it since I owned the house.
