Yep, that's right, that's what a circus smells like. Take away the candy and , and you'd have a pet shop.

Oh, there have lots of real clowns, Lady Scott: Emmett Kelly (the sad clown), Chuckles the Clown (on the old "Mary Tyler Moore Show"), Kukla (the puppet clown), Grandma the Clown, Clarabelle (from "Howdy Doody), Shakes the Clown, and others that I can't think of offhand.
I fully expect Judy Dench to do a clown role one of these days, tyo show her versatility.

Sheesh! I didn't know we were supposed to consider *evil* clowns, too.
Well, all right, then.
First, you have "Killer Klowns From Outer Space," the horror movie. .
Then you have the Rodeo Clowns in the movie "Shakes the Clown."
In the film "Quick Change," you have Bill Murray disguising himself as a clown so he can rob a bank.
Satisfied?

I would put Van Helsing an Action/comedy myself...with a horor like setting

It certainly has plenty of action, so I can see some truth in that.
The hanging sacks of bat fetuses gave me the creeps, though. So did the flying wives of Dracula. . Maybe the Holy Trinity of horror (Wolfman, Dracula, and Frankenstein's Monster) have become so familiar to audiences that they inspire laughter as much as horror nowadays, but there were enough new creepy elements to make my skin crawl fairly often.

Well, the guy who was playing Dracula was pretty campy. *He* thought it was a comedy. Hugh Jackman just rolled his eyes a lot. The masked ball was very classy, though, as if at some level the director was taking it all pretty seriously. Quite a mix of elements.
