I'm not sure "if anyone" can... but put it like this - I was given a book about it and a pack of cards as a present about 15 years ago, and I didn't find it very difficult to get the hang of it.

Having said that, I don't think I would claim to be psychic, either.

playing cards and tarot cards are very similar so people who can read tarot cards should be able to do playing cards.

the minor tarot cards have 4 suits - coins, cups, wands, swords A-10 and 4 court cards

The playing cards - 4 suits - hearts (cups), diamonds (cups), spades and clubs (can't remember which relates to which ATM) and 3 court cards.

Untill the Rider Waite Smith packs, all the minor cards in a Tarot deck were decorated like playing cards, occultists used the numbers and the elements each suit rempresented to for their mediations.

I only claim to be a very good tarot reader, nothing more !!

smiley - ermdon't you mean intuition?

has anyone tried using the E-Ching? there are sticks and symbols and a book that tells you what it means and stuff. i am being very vague here because i have only heard of it in the 'His Dark Materials' trilogy used by Mary Malone in the world of the Mulefa. they seemed to work though.

It's I Ching, but pronounced Eee Ching. I used to use it, sometimes the readings seemed to be uncannily accurate for the situation (you ask specific questions), but possibly no more than by chance, dunno.

Te he, assuming the spiritualist is content in their line of work, i suppose it's a happy medium?

Most New Age type Shops usually stock I-Ching... you name it, if it has a hint of divination, someone somewhere will sell it!

Come to think of it, I *think* I may have seen I Ching in WHS Smiths, too.... I'll go consult me crystal ball and see if I've remembered rightly!

WHSmiths? but that's one of the most normal (boring) shops there is? if shops like that'll have it then it should be no problem finding a set.

Yup - but then, it may have been somewhere like Methuens or Waterstones, too. But I'm *fairly* certain I saw a set of I Ching in one of Smith's bigger branches, sometime.

Amazon should have at least one.

As a sceptic, though, I'd like to bring up the subject of 'Barnham phrases'. These are generalisations which appear to be more specific than they are, and they're what astrology, I Ching, spiritualism, and other divinatory devices depend upon. For example, Taureans are down-to-earth and Aquarians are open-minded--just like everybody else.

Other methods used are the 'self-fulfilling prophecy' (where you are told that you will be a certain way or do a certain thing and you believe it, so you do it), questioning (a lot of people wonder how mediums can know certain things; it's because they ask a lot of questions and then repeat the answers back to you), and selective memory (victims--sorry, CLIENTS--want to believe something so much that they forget everything that doesn't apply and remember only what fits).

As you've probably guessed, this is a matter of deep personal concern to me.smiley - winkeye

I'd agree with Snailrind - to a certain extent.

As I've said, I never would claim to be psychic, but - and this is only very very rarely - I can hit the nail on the head if I read to a complete stranger - and I make a point of NEVER asking them anything about themselves.

And I really don't know how, or why I can do that. It makes absolutely no sense atall, logically speaking.
