If you're a science smiley - geek, please read this brilliant article from Snopes.com:

http://www.snopes.com/fact-check/salt-lamps-cure-everything/

Not only is it a wonder of logic and research, but it is genius writing.

I have tears in my eyes. Tears of joy and mirth. I recommend reading it aloud to a loved one. Take deep breaths intermittently. Laughing that hard is a choking hazard.

That is a very good article indeed! Well chosen quotes, fascinating references and an amused tone to it that makes it easy to read!

"Despite numerous experimental and analytical differences across studies, the literature does not clearly support a beneficial role in exposure to negative air ions and respiratory function or asthmatic symptom alleviation"

I found that particularly interesting - I once had an 'ioniser' to sit next to in the hope of improving my asthma, but I think the main benefit was that the machine had a filter in it so it reduced the number of allergens in the air around me, rather than providing any benefits of the negative ions in themselves! Ah, yes - air filters are mentioned later in the article smiley - ok

The 2013 review indicated that negative ions did and did not improve mood but there are probably some subtleties in the original paper that didn't come across in this article...

The article ends strongly - the last couple of paragraphs incorporate great dry humour to get the points across! smiley - laughsmiley - ok

It all comes down to one thing smiley - winkeye and that is - when my dad was alive, he would argue on "is it black or is it white" on all subjects etc.
EVEN if you proved something to him (against his view/opinion) he'd say things like "well lets agree to differ" smiley - laughsmiley - laugh He would never concede anything that was against HIS thoughts...

therefore - some believe, some don't smiley - biggrinand many will buy smiley - winkeye as it's written, then it must be true smiley - winkeyesmiley - sheepsmiley - winkeyesmiley - winkeye
