In your write-up of Chicago style Hot Dogs you mention that they have nothing to do with 'Frankfurters' and that 'Frankfurters' implies that they were created/manufactured in Frankfurt, Germany.
Not true! 'Frankfurters' can be found in German and Polish Deli's all over Chicagoland, and they are produced right here in Chicago by among others, Vienna Beef. Ursingers and Joe's Meats (North Western Avenue) also make them and Meyers Deli on the 4700 North block of Linclon Avenue sell's them.
These 'Frankfurters' are all beef, longer and thinner than the typical Chicago Hot Dog and taste a great deal better.

I was trying to make a little different point.
Frankfurter's ARE a different sausage. I think the difference is similar to that between sparkling wine and champaign. I had read in a history of the chicago meat packing industry that the folks in Germany were a little affronted by the new York and Chicago immagrants selling 'frankfurters'. the sausages, while the same, were not made in Germany.
Your point is well taken though, that i failed to distinguish between the weiner and the frankfurter. there are of course several differences. Aside from the size, weiner have a more uniform consistency, as frankfurters are processed less finely they oftern have that nice meal texture while weiners are very homogenous.
Oversight on my part.
