Loonies & Toonies

You started this one Q-bert..
The Canadian $1 coin has a picture of a loon on it. We call it a Loonie. So of course when inflation made a $2 coin necessary it naturally got called a Toonie. God's truth.
Just had to come by and see who was silly enuff to try and argue religion with Lucinda. You must be needing a Gloatman bonus fix..

So does this damn machine make change or what?
Or will I get tuppence?

This machine accepts one-and two-dollar coins. Change will be in Polish Zlotys, unless today (the date of your posting) is the twentyninth of the month, in which case change will be returned in pencils.

What are the Americans calling their $1 coins? Also, how did I start this? I don't even want to know WHAT I started...

Americans have a 'silver dollar' coin. At one time - a hundred years ago - called an Eagle - but now just 'Silver Dollar'. And Canada used to have a similar 'silver dollar' but collectors kept them out of circulation so the rather unattractive bronze coloured 'loonie' was adopted for practical reasons. We still have 'silver dollars', they aren't silver and they are always worth more than a dollar, and they are never circulated. Collectors...who can understand the way they think?
You started it by saying you had this machine. When I come along and see a coin slot just sitting there, I just have to see what it does.
Too bad today is the 29th... I got lots of pencils. But I could probably use a few Zlotys.
How would you pronounce that? Z-low-tees? Slot-is? Is it the standard currency unit in Poland? Or one of the coin units?

It's the standard currency unit. But I have no idea how zloty is pronounced. Find a Pole to ask.

I thought the Americans were coming out with new $1 coins to replace the dollar bill. I have professors from Detroit who confirmed it, in fact. (I live very close to the USA/Canada border)

Oh, very droll and amusing. smiley - erm
I'm Canadian. I thought it was made clear by the fact that I needed an American prof to learn that the Yanks were getting new coins... oh never mind. smiley - winkeye

On second thought, it wasn't as obvious as I'd believed. Sorry. BTW, where are you from?

Canada.
No it wasn't that obvious. American profs pop up just about anywhere these days..
But then I wasn't as droll or amusing as I thought I was.

That's ok. I'm never as droll or amusing as I think I am.

Remember those Disney chipmonks, Chip and Dale. They were constantly apologising to each other or trying to be nicer than each other while affecting a very polite British manner -
-After you-
-Oh no, I insist, after you-
-No really, my fault-
-Surely not, entirely my doing-
And on, and on, until one of them (I was never sure which) would lose patience and boot the other or smack him up the side of the head-

I think they must be Canadian.

I agree. You're absolutely right. I apologise for being so foolish and cringing, and promise I'll try to be more assertive in future.
But I think you're confusing Chip and Dale with those gophers that always eat farmer Fudd's crops in the Warner Brothers cartoons

Am I? You may be quite right? Chuck Avery then. Not Disney? Oh my! Short term mammaries you see.
