It's 3 am I must be lonely

Here I sit, almost 3am, in the middle of my graveyard shift, with no one around, work to do, and absolutely zero motivation. I've been doing this shift for months now, probably close to a year, and I have a love-hate relationship with it. I love that I take an average of two calls a night, in a call center, and can get plenty of other tasks done. I hate that this shift puts my sleeping patterns opposite to those of my wife, who is expecting our first child in August. I love that I can go to all her appointments with her without missing work. I hate that for 6 hours of my 8 hour shift, I am the only person in my department (and, for the first few months, was the only person in the entire building)... I think I may be suffering a mild depression as a result of this shift, but am afraid to say anything to anyone about it, as my alternative is to lose the extra income it brings, which I really can't afford. But can I afford to keep going this way?

Blogging again

I've changed my website back to an ordinary blog, and have been writing there pretty much daily, so I've been neglecting this space lately. Sorry 'bout that smiley - winkeye

TinaG

Some years ago, a friend of mine named Bree introduced me to a girl named Cassie, who introduced me to TinaG. A short time later, Bree introduced me to Maddison, who re-introduced me to TinaG. Amazingly, we all shared a bunch of friends in common, and good times were shared. But then we lost touch. The last time I saw TinaG was some years later in Chicago when she was hanging out with a guy named Alex. I tried to re-introduce her to some of our mutual friends from before, and we still had some good times, but it just wasn't quite the same.

Anyhow, I thought I'd post this here in case any of you might know TinaG (if you do, maybe via Bree, Cassie, or Maddison. I doubt it via Alex, though). If you do, email me at wintermute AT nitemarecafe DOT com. I'm looking forward to meeting TinaG again (don't worry, I'm not a stalker, and my wife knows we're friends). In the meantime, I guess I'll wait... smiley - winkeye

Arduino Car

A few years back, a friend of mine bought me an Arduino to tinker with, but it has, unfortunately, sat in storage way too long. After my previously-mentioned BBS-in-a-modem is complete, I may finally get around to my originally planned project, and Arduino-controlled RC car. I have already obtained the RC car, but, unlike most of the Arduino Car projects you find when googling, mine does not use IC's for the h-bridge (aside: there's an ID for an entry, since I find none on here), it uses discreet transistors. Which makes my original idea a little more difficult, as my electronics skills are a little dated. My plan is to intercept the signal from the remote and route it through the Arduino. This will allow me to place a program on the Arduino that simply allows the RC car to work as-is, if I wish. Or I can add sensors to the Arduino and program in some logic on how to avoid obstacles and such, but have a signal from the remote interrupt the program and make the car act as if it is unmodified. The possibilities are endless smiley - smiley (and now, to start putting together that h-bridge article...)

RasPi project

I was one of the people who purchased a RasPi during pre-order, and have used it for a few different projects but never one that I kept using for long.
