i have found that not wearing flat soled shoes is essential to avoiding an embarassing stumble. don't know why, but flat soled shoes think it's funny to make you trip, looking like a huge moron who can't walk properly on solid ground. it's best to stick with 2" thick heeled boots.

Bare feet work for me!

A slight problem is the hot pavements at this time of year, but well, my feet are a lot more heat resistant than they used to be. I think they gave up complaining, and just decided to get on with the job smiley - smiley

Well, it's only winter in the Northern Hemisphere. I.e. Not here smiley - smiley

And um, I could stand it being a little cooler too. Not snowing tho. Just um, cooler than this.

Australia smiley - smiley

It never snows in my part of Australia. Or at least, I believe it HAS been known to, but I don't know anybody who remembers it. Before I was born, anyway.

And yes, I could really do with an air-conditioner now. Or perphaps a built-in swimming pool.

i could live without a pool, i can't swim. i can't even float.
AC i could never live without though. i would suffocate without it.4

Swimming is a sort of national pasttime here. It really has to be, since the bulk of the population live along the coast. So my kids are learning: the youngest is four and already can dogpaddle, and is almost able to do completely without flotation devices. smiley - smiley We just have to be safe. But I imagine it's not so important in areas that don't have as many water-related activities.

i don't live that far from the ocean, maybe three hours at the most, and there is a pool here, i just won't go near it. traumatic experience as a kid left me terrified of them. silly really, at my age to be frightened of a pool, i won't even go in if i have a float or a raft. log rides at the amusement park are about as daring as i get.
i'm not sure what the national pasttime is here, i am told it's baseball but it seems to be more like getting very drunk and punching people over a stupid ball that gets thrown around.

I only spent two weeks in the US, but one of the friends I hung out with was into ice hockey (to be fair, he is an ex-pat Canadian) and the other into football. I don't think fans change much the world around. I'm sure we have a few of those here, even if it's not at a baseball game.

hockey isn't that bad. what other sport can you go to see that is so bloody? especially when they clobber each other with the sticks. i love that. rugbyis nice too, if you're the violent type. i'm not, not really, but who doesn't get the urge to watch grown men fight like babies?

I used to like watching WCW wrestling. But there's a lot of theatrics in that as well.

The worst of it is, as far as I can tell, not only is it completely fake, but there's no new plotlines. It goes something like this:

There's a couple of good guys that are really great friends. Then there's some really nasty types who have it in for them. The good guys fight together through thick and thin, do anything for eachother, and trust eachother implicitly. The bad guys gang up on them, but they gang up on the bad guys, and things are reasonably even between the two teams.

BUT THEN... (the amazing 'Gee I didn't see THAT coming' plot twist)

ONE of the good guys betrays his friend and helps the bad guys beat him up so badly that the commentators say "Oh, no, will he ever wrestle again?"

Of course, the beat-up guy is injured for a while, and now hates his ex-friend to bits, and vows to take vengeance on him, while the commentators take sides (you always know who is supposed to be the good guy and who is the bad by which commentator is biased towards them) and a whole heap of other wrestlers get in on the act, especially when the inevitable 'gang up on the guy who is still good' scene happens, and a bunch of OTHER good guys come into the ring to help him.
There are various ways of presenting this plot. One I saw recently was that the good guy's friend nicked off with his mate's wife, but hey, if people think there's going to be something NEW...

i love it when the guy gets clobbered with a chair or thrown into a folding table. it's so predictable. i noticed that they were starting to add some *new and unexpected* plots, like men stealing other men's women and some of the women having some thing for each other. it's like a soap opera covered in sweat and tight underwear.

sometimes i might watch a few minutes of it when i'm in bed sick, but not on any day when i'm decently coherent.
