I'm preparing a sort of guide to writing personal spaces challenge, with some links. I'd like to include yours because I like the way you've described how you got your name.

I'm trying to encourage people to come and ask the linked to researchers for advice. People might not write to you, because in your case I haven't mentioned your name in relation to a particular issue of Guide ML, but then again they might.

Would you have any objections to being linked to/ people coming to your space?

No probs if you have!

Thanks smiley - ok

Nope!

Although the challenge will be open to oldies to update their PSs for noohootoo should they wish to take part.

This is mainly so I force myself to...

Thanks - I've commented there.

My modification will not effect the reason you put me in the entry, though - I'll leave that bit there.

Cheers TC! (A but belated that).

I wanted to ask you if you would consider helping me out with Create. You've made some really spot on comments about tasks and have a good eye for when I am being less than clear.

I'm looking for people who would contribute tasks, either as one offs or more regularly, but also people to help me host it and keep up the admin.

I was hoping you could help me with the latter, and also the former too if you want.

Oooh - sorry I hadn't seen this. Those journals are flooding the convo lists.

I like the idea of thinking up tasks. It's something I can do on my bike on the way to/from work.

Which indicates that I am trying to spend less time at the computer screen, but, OTOH, as most of the time I spend here is just mucking about, I could easily divert my energies into putting it into use by helping you out with projects.

Maybe, though, for our sakes and for the rest of the researchers, we should look to not necessarily creating new stuff, but working on what's there.

And maybe setting some kind of word limit. E.g. - a print out of the text would not fill more than one side of A4 in font 12.

I have had one idea: pick out an old factual entry, edited or not, and write a story round it. I remember I edited an entry on Tesseracts, which an imaginative brain could possibly bring to life. And Gnomon's recent project on the Crusades is a mine of ideas for fictional stories. This would get creative juices going, as well as drawing attention to the old entries.

As for entry writing (not sure if that's your remit): So often have people been encouraged to write about their home town. Why don't they? Or their school, their local pub.

Is this too much like primary school homework? : Ask everyone to go for a walk on a Sunday afternoon (or whenever, it could be a walk to work, a detour for a normal route, or walking the dog). They can write about what they saw, what they thought about on the way, how the objects en route (in the countryside or in a town) change over the seasons... (that's a typical "look out of the window for inspiration" idea. It's a glorious autumn morning out there)

Or to write a descriptive passage or poem on a very very humdrum daily activity. In fact, so embellished that the reader will have to guess what the description is of. Scuse my dicey grammar there.

So - now I must write today's journal before I get waylaid. Er, and carry on setting up this new laptop I've just bought. Er, and read everyone else's journal. Um. And have breakfast. Oh, and, of course, edit my PS!

Hurrah! Those are GREAT ideas.

Can I invite you to email me? I'm sort of in the middle of planning next month, and consulting with the Guide Eds as providing 'challenges' for Guide Entries is very much part of Create, so I can cut you in there.

I really like your idea of using an existing entry to inspire writing, for eg. That would be perfect for next month and I'll tell you why if you email.

We could use Noesis if yor'd prefer, but the volunteer section seems to have gone a bit quiet, and everyone seems to be emailing atm.

I saw this, and I've been waiting for your email. It doesn;t seem to have popped up in my inbox yet. Nor yet in my spam box. It's happened before, actually. I was going to give it a day or so and then investigate. I's happened before that someone;s email has been slow in coming. Gah.

Right! Create has an email! [email protected] and let me type out my email again. I have a horrible feeling that the letters may be the wrong way round but there are days when I just can't see it. s_solnushka at yahoo dot co dot uk

See how much I want you to join me? I am insistent!

No - I'm really sorry, I haven't written yet. Computer problems: a little, RL pressure: a bit more.

I'll try again at the weekend.

No worries. Good, in fact! I was worried I've somehow managed to block you.

Actually, let's do this a different way. I'll get you fixed up with permissions to get into the Editorial Volunteers section of Noesis, which is where we are going to be housed, and get back to you when you are in.

What will it involve? Are you just mining my brain or will I be doing some editing/writing for Create?
