Hi TC, in one of the Musician's Guild's threads you mentioned a fine record shop near the place where you live. I seem to recall that you live in the southwest of Germany somewhere round Karlsruhe. Well, I live in that area, too, and I am desperately looking for a decent record shop. Can you tell me where that shop actually is? I'd be be so grateful!
Ah, and by the way, as you asked for recommendations; I'm not much of an expert, but I always enjoy classical works conducted by John Eliot Gardiner. Purcell opreas, Mozart concertos - whatever, he always does a fantastic job. As far as I know he usually works with the Monteverdi Choir and the English Baroque Soloists, and both do really outstanding interpretations - at least to my untrained ear they do. My personal favorite is Purcell's Fairy Queen.
And if you like guitar or lute music - well, then you should probably check out the Los Angeles Guitar Quartet (spelling?). They mostly do contemporary stuff - very nice!
Please don't forget to tell me about the record shop - PLEASE!

Hi Musencus -
a. I shall add you to my ominous German list.
b. I meant Schlaile in Karlsruhe - it's so fun because you go up stairs and keep getting lost and bumping into pianos.
c. Weren't the LA Guitar Quartet at that concert in Leipzig for Bach's 250th Anniversary, where it rained - that must be the only night this year I was up late and not on H2g2.

Hi TC
a. Whatever this list may be I'm honoured to be on it (although just like Groucho Marx I'd usually not join a club who'd accept me as a member ... not very new that joke, I admit )
b. ah .... Schlaile. Very well. I'll check it out as soon as I get the possibility to go to Karlsruhe
c. don't know. I just checked out the guitar section of a local record shop and all they had - apart from the usual Romeros stuff - was this LAGQ record. I bought it because I felt I needed some guitar music to improve my mood and it turned out to be great. Didn't know they played in Leipzig but that may very well be.
Take care
