I'm looking out for some. There's a Tati film just come out called The Illusionist - I'd like to see that. But it may be completely different from the St Jacques/Schtis genre. Computer animated, but the Scots are absolutely bowled away by the depiction of the Scottish countryside.

Probably not out on DVD yet.

Check out director Dany Boon (quite a cutie) on imdb.

I think the Audrey Tautou film "Ensemble, c'est tout" - (Zusammen ist man weniger allein) might be up our street. That should be available as it first came out in 2007.

My son has seen "L'auberge espagnole" and recommends it.

I don't know why I've never seen any of these - you're right, they're really worth watching and so refreshingly realistic and down to earth.

thanks I'll check them out

#2 is in the bilingual class at school so we're trying to get a bit of French culture at home (outside of food and wine) and films are a good way, even when we watch in German. (I always try her with a bit of it in the original afterwards but she usually runs away screaming)

For a slow-moving film, which you can possibly follow in the original even, what about "Monsieur Ibrahim et les fleurs du Couran"

Then there are the Asterix films if you're watching with the kids. Don't know what's better there - cartoons or real people. The humour is very adult, however. (not in the *** sense!)

I watched that one a few months ago, even in French (go me!) but the gruesomes found it very slow going even with German subtitles, and thought the story terribly boring. I loved it though.

As fr Asterix... I really don't like it at all. eek!

There's a new one out. The German title is "Fasten auf Italienisch". It is done by the same people who did "Willkommen bei den Schtis"
