Zarquon's Singing Fish!

Hi - just looking at who's who on the site now. I see you were an even earlier researcher than me - my hootoo birthday is 12 August 2001, although I'm not sure we've interacted before, have we?

Hi! I don't think we've met before either! *extends hand*

It's not as busy as in the old days, but we do have lots of visitors, and our entries are being read (running it on our own means we get statistics...)! And there is a bunch of people hanging out still smiley - smiley

I've mostly been in the background, but I do try to be visibly present too.

Hope you find something nice to write about! We always need entries!

Hi Milla *shakes hand*

It's been a while since I was writing entries, doing scouting and sub-editing. Life took over. It's really lovely to find there are people I knew earlier still around, and who remember me and sharing memories of researchers past and those great parties and events! Were you there for the photo treasure hunt?

I've some entries unfinished that I started years ago, and have a couple of ideas for new ones - and it's more likely that I'll start a new one initially. It will probably take me a while to re-learn the skills I once had.

Can you recommend someone to talk to about some technical difficulties I've been having logging into the site using Pliny - or could you help? I can log in using Brunel and/or Goo, but not Pliny, following what appears to have been an outage last night.

I wasn't around for any photo treasure hunt (IRL? or on h2g2?)
But I was at the Manchester meet just recently!

We had some login issues the last few days, but it should work in Pliny now. Not sure about the status of Ripley, I don't even dare to use it unless I really really have to! No support for those versions...

If the system is up and working, and you still have problems, email [email protected]
They're not staffed 24/7, so be patient smiley - smiley

If there's a tech problem, you can also email ops@h2g2,com and I will direct it from there.

Not sure of the date of the photo treasure hunt. It was probably around 2002 or 2003. We set off in teams of four, armed with a small camera and a set of clues, which we handed back after completing as much as we could. Great fun. I was in the same team as 2Legs and he's just reminded me of the other two, who I don't think have been around in a while - Vogonpoet and Deakie.

I'll keep an eye open for forthcoming meets. They were fun. Others we did included a guided tour of London, one in the Science Museum, on in Regents Park, and one in a pub. Was Manchester fun?

Pliny seems to be working now (that's the default skin, right?). I'm not sure what Ripley looks like. I'll keep the addresses you gave me for future problems.

Thanks

Having said that, I just tried Ripley and Pliny. They both appear to look the same, and neither is working. smiley - groan Hey ho. As long as I use Brunel, it should be fine.

Ripley is the collective for Alabaster, Brunel and Goo.
Pliny is the new version with dolphins. (and no "dna/classic/" things in the url

Pliny should be distinctly different from the others - if you find Ripley and Pliny similar, I would be severely worried! Also if they are not working? How not working? Let me know.

Manchester was great - best walking city tour I ever had, 3½ hours disappeared like a sneeze, and of course seeing (and tasting the results of) Pasteys brewery was awesome!

In Brunel, when I go to "Front Page", I get sent to this page: https://h2g2.com/ - and find I'm logged out and my login doesn't work. I've reset my password at least three times, but it doesn't matter.

It's been ages since I was in Manchester. There was no Pasteys Brewery then. There was Boddingtons, mind. smiley - ale

The Front Page in the Ripley skins isn't updated, so I would suggest that you use Pliny as much as you can.
Have you emailed moderators?

Pastey's brewery is called Beer Noveau - visit if you can!

Ah, that would explain it. I think I'll have to email the moderators as I can't access the site in Pliny at all. smiley - cheers

Beer Noveau - I'll keep an eye open for it next time I'm Manchester way, unless it's available nationally.

I did write to the mods, and now have access to Pliny, so thanks for pointing me in their direction. Interestingly, I didn't have to update my login details for Ripley, and that's OK for the moment. I'm far happier in Brunel.

(Brunel = 1 of 3 Ripley skins)
Login is the same across Ripley skins and Pliny, so once it works, it should work.

The odd thing is that I'm not logged in here in Brunel with the same one as Pliny. I did try to see something in Brunel in the Pliny login and got to a page saying that that page wasn't available. I seem to have developed a split personality.

The email I had from the Mods said that it might be because I've been away for a long time and something to do with caching.

At present I'm able to access both skins with no problems, although I don't quite know why.

You must have done something, Milla? smiley - cogs

Today, I used Brunel to reply to a couple of messages and after one, was required to login afresh, using the new details. So I'm no longer a split personality. Thank you! smiley - ta

Interestingly, looking at stuff in Pliny, there are new smileys including smiley - chocolateteapotsmiley - laugh. That's pretty smiley - cool

Yes, we do encourage Pliny - not least because we have the option to fix things when broken...
