A87877110 Tolkien's Maps – version I'm mucking about with
A87874591 Tolkien's Maps - PR Version

Hello, just letting you know that I'll be subbing this entry. I enjoyed having a read through and getting my old Tolkien books out again – I notice that you don't mention the mysterious land of 'Do not write in this margin' seen on the first 'Silmarillion' map (found in 'The Shaping of Middle Earth') smiley - winkeye You're right that the circular maps in that book don't really need to be mentioned.

I did wonder whether you wanted to clarify about the initials 'Th.Th.' are actually thorn thorn rather than 'th th', as someone expecting to see 'th th' won't see it?

I have made one vast, drastic change so far; I moved footnote two about half an inch to the right. The reason for this was because the footnote in its original location mentioned Thror before he had been mentioned in the main body of the text – now the footnote mentions him after he has been introduced. If you're upset by this, please let me know and I can nudge the footnote back a bit.

Hi Bluebottle.

I've no problem with you moving the footnote.

Perhaps you could replace:

and is signed '.Th.Th.' These are the initials of Thror and Thrain together

with:

and is signed '.Þ.Þ.' The symbol Þ is the runic version of 'Th', so these were the initials in runes of Thror and Thrain together

I don't think anything further needs changing, so would you like to have a read through and let me know if you're happy with the entry?

We've the same issue later on:

and is signed Th. Gandalf the wizard described the map as 'made by your grandfather Thror', and it is described as Thror's map so presumably the Th here stands for Thror.

Both these Ths are in fact Thorns. Can you do the same for these:

and is signed with another runic Þ.

and

presumably the Þ rune here stands for Thror

I've just one suggested change, and it's to my own wording, nothing that you have done:

Since the book featured only one major incident between Bilbo's house and Rivendell
-- change "featured" to "described", because there's a "featured" in the previous sentence.

Other than that, I'm happy.
