As Bel mentioned, long threads used to put a strain on the BBC servers. Sometimes the Thingites' 'No, No, No' thread used to take so long to load up that it would 'Time Out' before you had a chance to answer in there.

It was decided that a thread with multiple researchers participating should be closed after about 15k postings, and another thread opened.

Thankfully this doesn't happen these days.

I meant the question I was asking which was looking for a technical answer to how it all Works. Sorry I will go find a place where people answer technical questions.

I seem to be having problems here posting.
I really don't understand where and what to post.
I am getting into hot water without meaning to and frankly am very confused.

For instance, in that thread, the talking heads thread, it seemed like a friendly place
and I noticed the mention of the overloaded thread in previous posts
so I thought asking my question there would be on topic and get answer and/or discussion

but evidently I shouldn't have been there?
Otherwise you would not have taken it over here but would have answered it there?

very confused, not just about that one but a lot of other posting incidents too!

I mean, it seems you have to know what you are doing here to get around okay,
but it is really hard to find out how to do things.

If you need to have a question answered, the Ask h2g2 is your forum. Unless they are technical ones, then they should be placed in Technical Feedback.

If you want to have a general chat, then try Misc Chat... Too many are using Ask these days when Misc Chat covers a huge spectrum.

I opened Talking Heads for some like-minded friends who enjoy a bit of banter and frivolity, semi-serious chat, but nothing too serious. As most threads go quiet for a time, eventually they pick up again, or move on.

You asked a question in the thread to which the others already know the answer. So rather than spoiling the on-going chat I brought the answer over to your PS.
