I am planning my next trip to the States.

So far I have visited:

Dec 2002: Boston, MA
Aug 2006: New York, NY and Chicago, IL
Sep 2007: New York, NY
June 2008: Philadelphia, PA
Sep 2008: New York, NY
Mar 2009: Raleigh, NC
Sep 2009: New York, NY

So now I come to planning my eighth visit, and this time it will be Washington, D.C. in early April

One of the recurring themes of these holidays is baseball, which I have watched at Shea Stadium, US Cellular Field, Yankee Stadium, Citizens Bank Park and KeySpan Park. I've also taken in tennis at Flushing Meadows and Ice Hockey at the RBC Center.

In DC, I will obviously be indulging my interest in US politics (given that my degree is in American Studies and Politics), but also my sporting desires. Nationals Park will be my latest Baseball destination, hopefully for the Nationals' season opener against the Phillies. However, there is more sport on, and I think I might take in Major League Soccer at RFK stadium, and maybe NBA basketball (I've only ever been to games in the less glamorous British Basketball League) or NHL hockey at the Verizon Center.

I have booked my flights today (via Newark, NJ as you can't fly direct from Manchester to Washington), and am now at the hotel- choosing stage. i fly out 2nd April and stay for five nights.

clzoomer- a bit woobly

The Caps host the Thrashers on the 1st, which I personally would give a miss....

They host the Bruins on the 5th and won't have played them since February. I think that would be a good bet for a great game.

Enjoy, I'm smiley - envy

smiley - cheers

I do have a slight leaning towards the Bruins, fro my christmas holiday in Boston and soaking up the atmosphere of the place, so that could be a good one. I saw their outdoor match at Fenway on TV the other day, struck me a s a nice idea, but not too spectator friendl when you consider how small a hockey rink is in the context of a ballpark.

More baseball for me this month. My now annual trip to New York will take place from 25th September, and happens to coincide with the biggest game in baseball. Yankees-Red Sox is on at New Yankee Stadium and I have a ticket.
