Yesterday was our first 80° day of 2018. I very nearly had to turn on the a/c. I know plenty of my neighbours did. I hope we actually get some of this rain that's been forecast for this week. We're about 3" behind on the year, and I just want to see something more than drizzle.

February 1986 was a hot one.

Yesterday 76/63 (30% chance of rain) (actual: 80/69, trace of rain)
Today 74/64 (40% chance of storms)
Wednesday 66/61 (80% chance of storms)

Saturday 69/60 (40% chance of storms)
Sunday 64/48 (20% chance of rain)
Monday 70/47 (20% chance of rain)

We've been staying quite damp. Every weekend, it seems, is grey and moist. We've been having the occasional shower and lots of fog. I don't think we're much above normal rainfall though, even with the minor flooding we had last week.

WTForecast sums it up quite well, "These clouds just won't leave, just like the smiley - bleep weirdos in your family." Followed shortly later by "Don't you just love the grayness of everything? Neither do I."

I felt like we had rain for most of the day yesterday, but Camp Mabry only recorded four hours of wet, and only 0.19". Bergstrom got even less. Perhaps I'm Rob McKenna.

A cold front arrived (FROPA in modern weather terminology, apparently. FROntal PAssage smiley - rolleyes) between 2am and 3am, and the temperature fell from 71 to 52, then 48 after 4pm. Now it's down to 43 and I have condensation on the inside of all my windows and glass doors, something I used to see frequently during my childhood winters, but I rarely see here.

There's a big area of rain immediately to the south, and building, but only slowly moving north, so far, and it's mostly green - no sign of any storms.

Yesterday 74/64 (40% chance of storms) (actual: 73/69, 0.19" rain)
Today 66/61 (80% chance of storms)
Thursday 51/36 (50% chance of showers and storms)
Friday 71/48 (40% chance of storms)
Saturday 73/63 (50% chance of showers and storms)
Sunday 65/48 (20% chance of rain)
Monday 69/45 (10% chance of rain)
Tuesday 70/47 (10% chance of rain)

Average for this time of the year: 66/46
Record high temperature for yesterday: 97 (1986)
Record high temperature for today: 99 (1996)

And now that area of rain is breaking apart.

The storms (there are plenty on the radar) are staying well away from Austin. A grand total of 0.08" so far at Camp Mabry. Northern and central Houston looks like it's getting its fair share.

This week, which was supposed to give us anything from 1" to 3" of rain, has so far proved to be a damp squib; damp, rather than wet, being the important word. There's a better than 50% chance of rain for the next three days so I'll have to pick up my brolly on the way out of the door to work, but will I need to open it? We'll see.

Yesterday 66/61 (80% chance of storms) (actual: 71/39, 0.13" rain)
Today 51/36 (60% chance of showers and storms)
Friday 71/45 (60% chance of showers and storms)
Saturday 75/60 (60% chance of showers and storms)
Sunday 67/47 (20% chance of rain)
Monday 72/45
Tuesday 73/53 (30% chance of storms)
Wednesday 72/52 (30% chance of showers and storms)

Average for this time of the year: 67/46
Record high temperature for yesterday: 99 (1996)

I hadn't heard the term "damp squib" until I saw this scene on The IT Crowd. smiley - laugh

The only usage of the word "squib" I was familiar with was in film special effects.

I believe I've used it here before, and by here I mean this very conversation smiley - biggrin

Yesterday morning, five minutes before I left for work, it was hosing down. I stepped out of the door, put up my umbrella, started walking to the bus stop... and within 30 seconds the rain stopped smiley - facepalm And no, I didn't need it for the rest of the journey, nor on the way home. But I did hear some thunder, late in the evening just before I went to bed.

It's raining now, which is coming from the northern end of a sizeable area of rain making its way up I35 from San Antonio, and I've heard more thunder just now. We'll see what it's like an hour from now when I go to work.

That's the third day in a row that 1995 has been the record maximum temperature year, and the second day at 95°.

Yesterday 51/36 (60% chance of showers and storms) (actual: 44/37, 0.6" rain)
Today 71/45 (60% chance of showers and storms)
Saturday 75/60 (50% chance of storms)
Sunday 71/46 (20% chance of rain)
Monday 70/43
Tuesday 69/50 (20% chance of rain)
Wednesday 73/60 (40% chance of showers and storms)
Thursday 72/52

Average for this time of the year: 67/47
Record high temperature for yesterday: 95 (1996)
Record high temperature for today: 95 (1996)
