We've reached the half century. Scorchio number 50. I guess this is the new normal now. I don't care for it. If the forecast is right and we make it to 51 today it'll be a new record because today's record high is not a scorchio.

Might have to dust off the brolly for work next Thursday.

Yesterday 101/74 (actual: 100/75)
Today 100/73 (10% chance of rain)
Monday 98/75 (20% chance of rain)

No scorchio, and I almost wanted it to be scorchio because yesterday was the first day since the summer began that the daily record maximum was sub-scorchio. Today is the second. What's more, the minimum daily average is below 70 now, and the maximum average will drop below 90 in a day or two. If only someone could tell the weather.

Maybe they have. After today things are looking a bit more pleasant, thanks to a developing disturbance in the Gulf of Mexico.

The page I use for the previous day's minimum and maximum temperatures http://forecast.weather.gov/product.php?site=NWS&product=CF6&issuedby=ATT has been doing weird things recently. A few days ago, possibly on the 11th or 12th, I went there as usual, and every day since the 8th had vanished. Then those days came back a day or two later, then yesterday it went back to the 8th, and this morning, the 16th, it's only showing up to the 14th, so yesterday is missing. I've had to use the hourly Camp Mabry page, which itself isn't exactly reliable, for the daily minimum and maximum temperatures.

Yesterday 100/73 (10% chance of rain)
Today 98/75 (20% chance of rain)
Tuesday 94/75 (30% chance of rain)
Wednesday 93/74 (40% chance of rain)
Thursday 90/74 (50% chance of rain)
Friday 91/74 (50% chance of rain)
Saturday 93/73 (30% chance of rain)
Sunday 93/73 (20% chance of rain)

Average max/min for this time of the year: 90/69
Record high temperature for today: 99 (1965, 1954, 1920)
Record low temperature for today: 54 (1945)

Scorchio number 51, so the daily record high was broken. That page I mentioned, which yesterday was showing temperatures up to the 15th, so missing the previous day, has now gone back to the 8th, so missing more than a week of numbers. And when I looked at the page where I get the week ahead numbers there was an 89° reading for either Wednesday or Thursday. It's gone now. I think it was just a forecaster being mischievous.

Yesterday 98/75 (20% chance of rain) (actual: 101/76, no rain)
Today 94/75 (30% chance of rain)
Wednesday 93/74 (50% chance of rain)
Thursday 93/75 (50% chance of rain)
Friday 95/75 (40% chance of rain)
Saturday 94/75 (30% chance of rain)
Sunday 95/74 (20% chance of rain)
Monday 95/74 (10% chance of rain)

Average max/min for this time of the year: 90/69
Record high temperature for today: 98 (1925)
Record low temperature for today: 53 (1903)

We're expecting between 10" and 20" of rain this week. smiley - yikes

I'm all for an end to the drought, but I'm not a huge fan of flooding (thanks, Harvey smiley - rolleyes).

I've heard reports of 10"+ falling in only a few hours. Looking at the various NWS pages that might cover the storm, one is a special marine warning advising a possibility of waterspouts http://forecast.weather.gov/wwamap/wwatxtget.php?cwa=hgx&wwa=special%20marine%20warning Our rain chances are somewhat less, and we could do with some.

Meanwhile here, no scorchio. In fact we had our coolest day since July 24th. And that Camp Mabry page is up to date. For now.

Yesterday 94/75 (30% chance of rain) (actual: 92/76, trace of rain)
Today 93/74 (50% chance of rain)
Thursday 95/75 (60% chance of rain)
Friday 96/76 (40% chance of rain)
Saturday 93/75 (30% chance of rain)
Sunday 94/74 (20% chance of rain)
Monday 95/74 (10% chance of rain)

I think were not going to get as much as originally predicted. We got 4.05" yesterday. Some areas west of I45 got 6-10".

Imelda moved quicker than expected and if it keeps moving, we should be OK.

We were in pretty severe drought so most of the water is being absorbed pretty quickly.

That's good news. And it was 8", not 10"+ I heard about earlier on.

Any road up. It's 10.30 and I'm only just about to put on the a/c, instead of the usual before-8am. Could summer finally be on the wane? smiley - brave

Last week someone told me they couldn't wait for the first real cold front of the season. I said I couldn't wait for the SECOND real cold front. The first is just a tease. Two days later it's back to scorchio.

I've been telling all and sundry for a month that I can't wait for the first one. It gives you hope, even if it is scorchio a few days later (October 2nd is our latest ever scorchio).

Meanwhile, after yesterday's pleasant 92°, and a forecast today of 93 with a chance of rain...

At 4pm it was 98° with a virtually cloudless sky smiley - rolleyes

As of 7:00ish this morning, Imelda had brought us 8.88 inches (Lucky 8s smiley - goodluck). So far today, I'm not sure but I bet we're well over 10 total now. There is some serious flooding in nearby areas.

According to meteorologist Eric Holthaus on twitter, "TS #Imelda has brought more than 41 inches of rain in the past 3 days to Texas — that’s a 1-in-1000 year rainfall event, just 2 years after Harvey (also a 1-in-1000 year event.)"

Just a coincidence. Nothing to do with any sort of climate. Oh no no no no.

Scorchio number 53, equalled the record maximum for the date, and I think that's one more scorchio than last year. The average temperature yesterday (101 + 77 / 2) was 89, or 10° above the average for the time of year. Also nothing to do with climate change. And look at the forecast for next week smiley - headhurts

Camp Mabry got a third of an inch of rain yesterday afternoon. I saw none at work.

No scorchio, but at 99° it may as well have been. Average temperature yesterday (99 + 78 / 2) was 11° above the average average for the date (89 + 68 / 2). I might start adding that to the numbers below. If this doesn't turn out to be the hottest ever September I'll be a monkey's uncle. Eek eek.

We got nearly 5 inches of rain in Bacliff yesterday. Just scattered showers that refused to scatter anywhere else. We had a similar training effect on Sunday as well, but it was mostly light rain with a few brief heavy showers. Sunday we only got 0.8 inches.

It was so bad yesterday, the Houston TV meteorologists actually showed our little unincorporated village on the map and mentioned Bacliff by name and even spelled it "correctly".
