Last night was a particularly warm one. I woke up at 3.30am drenched in sweat, and the thermostat was reading 84° when I got up an hour and a half later.

Scorchio number 39. Even though the coming week's forecast looks pretty grim, apparently the humidity is going to be lower than it has been for... what seems like forever, and the temperature at the airport has dropped below 70 for the first time since July 27th. The thermostat in here was reading 81° at 7.00am.
There could be hope that summer is almost over

And that's exactly what we did. Scorchio number 44. Could today (or maybe yesterday) be the final scorchio of the year? Or perhaps the last for a while? The latest one we've ever had is in October, although next week looks nicer than it has for a while, especially Saturday, it can still come back.

But... rain! And some comfort. The temperature dropped from 97 to 78 and didn't go back above 81 after that. But look at the weekend

I think I've worked out what's going on with this summer. Since it started so late (we didn't get our first scorchio until well into July), it's making up for lost time. The average temperatures are almost below 90 and below 70 but we're still above them, and by almost 10° in the case of the maximum.
