I just checked on Weather dot com to compare Austin vs. Houston
I'm looking at the forecasts at the major airports, IAH and AUS.
They're predicting Austin's high temp at 102° and Houston's at only 99°.
But the high heat indices for each are 108° & 109° respectively.
And the humidity, just below 50%, isn't particularly high for Houston.
I don't even want to look outside in this heat.

I use Camp Mabry http://w1.weather.gov/data/obhistory/KATT.html rather than the airport http://w1.weather.gov/obhistory/KAUS.html for all my recording and reporting. It's closer to whatever-it-is-I'm-calling-this-place-now, and gives a better idea of conditions in the city, being closer to downtown, while the airport is almost into the countryside. The airport can get a frost on winter mornings when we don't, and although the heat index at both places was 106 yesterday, the air temperature at Bergstrom was 5° lower.
Any road up.
Scorchio number 21, ninth in a row. And we haven't seen a drop of rain so far this month, but that might change this afternoon. We'll see.

I only used that because Weather.com didn't have Camp Mabry. IAH is also a bit of a ways outside of downtown Houston. But with all the urban sprawl, of which Houston is literally the epitome, the airport area is getting quite built up and likely has similar urban heat island effect. The local news almost exclusively site the two airports when reporting the "local" news.
My home is typically several degrees cooler as we're so close to the bay and the gulf so it gets quite sultry. My little S*** Town was originally envisioned as a summer resort area for the city folk, a place to build a little cabana close to the cooling bay breezes. I honestly feel like it was much cooler in my childhood. I do remember a 10-14 day stretch one summer in the 100°s, up to 113°, but generally it wasn't normally so miserable as it is today. Maybe were getting more acclimated to A/C, but I know it's direct evidence of global heating.
