There is only one thing worse than being Gosho, and that is not being Gosho

The Mabry web page is down again - no reports since 7.51am yesterday, but I think the numbers are right, which makes it the first day for months that we didn't make it to 90° smiley - biggrin When I got home my a/c thermostat was reading 85 instead of the usual 87 that I set it to when I leave in the morning. Once again there was plenty of rain all around Austin, and also in parts of Austin where I wasn't, but I never saw a drop all day.

And no, I didn't have to open my umbrella yesterday.

Yesterday 93/74 (60% chance of rain) (actual: 89/75, 0.6" rain)
Today 89/73 (70% chance of rain)
Sunday 87/72 (60% chance of rain)
Monday 92/71 (20% chance of rain)
Tuesday 93/71 (10% chance of rain)
Wednesday 93/72 (10% chance of rain)
Thursday 94/72 (10% chance of rain)
Friday 94/71 (20% chance of rain)

Average max/min for this time of the year: 93/72
Record high temperature for today: 101 (1993)
Record low temperature for today: 54 (1928)

I let the threat of rain, the absence of friends going, and rather delicate and personal health issue dissuade me.

But I did finish all urgent repairs to my camper-trailer. (I really got robbed: multiple leaks with water damaged woodwork, broken antennas, broken stereo, broken A/C, badly cracked shower pan (estimated $2300 to replace, fixed myself for under $100), multiple propane leaks, loose spare wheel mount, no spare attached, bad tires, no propane tank, and a fraudulent advertized weight of 750 lbs - 2400 lbs actual.)

I like the layout, and I've still spent less than I would have for a newer model, so if it holds up for a few years, I'll be ahead.

Texas Renaissance Festival starts at the end of the month, and I'm much more confident about getting in and out of their campground than at Sherwood.

I was looking at the radar shortly before I clocked out and went home. I noticed that a small but very red blotch had passed directly over Bastrop about 30 minutes earlier. Both Bastrop and Austin are currently being rained on, and look to be for the next several hours; perhaps most of the day.

The Camp Mabry page is still not working, so these are the Bergstrom numbers for yesterday's temperatures and (lack of) rain. Which were way off the forecast. Yesterday was really quite unpleasant. Very humid and very warm. Probably what Houston is like for most of the summer. There was a great deal of chafing at work yesterday afternoon.

And no, I didn't have to open my umbrella yesterday. I probably won't have to today either, but that's because I get a lift to and from work on Sundays smiley - ok

Usually.

We got 3.25 inches earlier today with some local street flooding. We really shouldn't get street flooding with just 3.25" but the county has done exactly zero about our poor drainage here with clogged culverts and collapsed storm drains.

And you would most certainly have got soaked at the fair in Bastrop.

After the awful, humid day at work on Saturday, yesterday was just wonderful. The thermometer at work never went above 82° smiley - bigeyes Nor, though, did it go below 80 even though we were willing it to show a temperature in the 70s.

Even though the *hourly* Camp Mabry page http://w1.weather.gov/data/obhistory/KATT.html works about as often as I wish I could (hardly ever), the *daily* page https://forecast.weather.gov/product.php?site=NWS&product=CF6&issuedby=ATT (which I've had bookmarked for several years) is keeping up, so that's what I'll use from now on.

And it shows that yesterday was our first sub-80° daily maximum since May 4th smiley - biggrin Even though we can still get scorchios right through September and into the first week of October (Oct. 2nd is the latest recorded in Austin), we now have hope, nay, confirmation, that the end of summer is in sight smiley - brave

There are three hurricanes in the Atlantic Ocean this morning. Florence is headed for the Carolinas; Helene is going to take a sharp left turn and end up as a depression in the north Atlantic, maybe heading for the UK, but Isaac is pointing due west and the current forecast is for it pass south of the Dominican Republic/Haiti (I think that's the island of Hispaniola, isin't it?) and on into the Gulf of Mexico. That's the track that hurricanes often take when they land in Texas.

Isaac has been downgraded to a tropical storm but it's still heading almost exactly due west along the 15th parallel, which will put it directly south of Jamaica on Sunday. After that, we'll see if it take a northerly turn into the Gulf.

Meanwhile, there's been some storm formation *in* the Gulf, and it's pointing itself directly for the Texas coast. No-one's sure yet if it will be a tropical depression, a tropical storm or just a lot of rain by the time it gets here next weekend, but it's coming http://pbs.twimg.com/media/Dmz4HvSV4AEsTJ7.jpg:large

We're waterlogged already. We've had a few weeks now of frequent rain. Yesterday alone we got 5.81". Fortunately at least one of our down stream neighbors cleared their ditch and culvert, so hopefully that will help, but other ditches beyond that one are clogged with weeds and debris.

The mosquitoes are SWARMING. I hate to go to work reeking, but I may start putting on DEET before leaving the house.

Yeah, I've noticed that throughout this period of rainy weather there's been plenty over Houston on the radar. The disturbance off the Gulf coast still hasn't become a recognised tropical storm yet, and it looks as if it's going to track further to the west, so hopefully you won't get too much rain from it.

I forgot to pick up my umbrella on the way out yesterday morning. Given that on Thursday, Friday and Saturday last week I had it with me and it didn't rain, then on Sunday it did rain but I didn't need it because I got a lift to work, you'd expect that on the day I don't have it I'm going to get soaked.

Nope, I got a lift home, but it was raining.

Still waiting to see if the disturbance is going to become a true storm. Either way, it's going to soak some people.

Nope, that disturbance moved on shore before developing so there's no chance it will do so now.

We've gotten rain 17 out of the last 18 days. 1.3" today.

It's clearing up now so hopefully the mosquito trucks can start spraying here soon.

Took my umbrella, didn't need to open it. It rained a little before I left for work, although not enough to have opened it even if I'd been out in it (and it's doing the same now). Then it poured down about an hour before I left work, but not on the way home. It looks like San Antonio and areas south are getting the worst of it.

And it looks they've still got yesterday's forecast up, albeit with forecast numbers that changed slightly during the day.

And we have our first sub-scorchio daily maximum record for months smiley - ok

Something's not right... I think I might have closed the browser yesterday before hitting the send button, because I definitely wrote one smiley - facepalm

Any road up. It's been hammering down here for the past 40 minutes or so. It woke me up about 15 minutes before the alarm went off. I'm seeing reports of anything from 2" - 5" an hour, and one of possibly 8", as well as rising water rescues in the region. I just hope it lets up within the next hour because, as much as I would *finally* like to be able to use my umbrella, it would be completely impotent against this downpour.

And as I write, the local emergency alarm has just cut into the radio with a flood alert warning. I imagine I'll see one when I switch on the phone too.

And I think that's our first sub-70° minimum after the summer, tomorrow night smiley - ok

And now something strange is going on with both the Mabry and airport NWS stations. I looked at Mabry earlier on to see what we might have got from that downpour but it hadn't updated yet - it still said 04.51 for the last report. Now it says 03.31 smiley - huhsmiley - tardis And the airport (which I hadn't checked before) is also stuck at 03.53.

Thankfully, it looks like the worst of it has passed, so I reckon I'll be okay. I'm offering even money that it won't even be enough to need the brolly. Which I'll have to take anyway smiley - rolleyes
