No other significant rain forecast until the end of August, But also interesting that the prediction is for temretures to drop below average then as well...
September now looks much more normal with showers and occasional periods of rain.
The computer must have had a rethink, or did someone nudge the arm on the stuck record?

Scorchio number 23. I'm liking the beginning of next week more and more.

One of today's posts from 2011:
"105 today, on a 104 forecast (day no. 41 for the season so far). The forecast for tomorrow is also 104, followed by 105 on Wednesday. Any bets on us making 110 before the summer's out?"

(We actually made 110, 111 and 112 that summer).

Yesterday 100/77 (actual: 101/77)
Today 101/76
Friday 102/75

This morning's smiley - biker ride in to work was actually pleasant. The humidity has dropped and the temps were sub 80°.

The ride to lunch and "home" will be another matter (but not quite scorchio).

Scorchio number 24. The NWS reporting page for Camp Mabry threw a wobbler yesterday and only recorded one temperature (101 at 16.51) for about six hours, which means it missed the six-hourly maximum/minimum update at 18.51, so we might have gone to 102.

I think I see a pattern there. If I remember rightly, 2017 would have been the hottest ever if not for Harvey and the temperature drop it brought, at least for a week or so. We didn't have a single scorchio afterwards.

Scorchio number 27 (13th consecutive). There are storms and a large area of rain over Dallas and Fort Worth right now. This is what's supposed to bring rain to us overnight and tomorrow morning along with the cold front that's going to put a stop to the scorchios, at least for a while.

Tomorrow morning. When I go out to do my shopping smiley - cross

South London and other bits

As I commented I was away near Wendover Sat & Sun, got the tent up in the dry but showers soon arrived and late evening the Thunder got going and he wind got up as the clouds came over, Sunday morning there was a brief window to get breakfast without added water but then it closed in again for the rest of the day.

It was even lightly raining when I got back to Wimbledon although the roads were still dry there were some puddles to show earlier rain as well.
Pleased to say my nearly 40 year old tent stood up to it fine, and I had a good nights kip in the cool.

Scorchio number 28 (14th consecutive) but only just. Those storms I mentioned yesterday seemingly weren't associated with the cold front after all because they has completely disappeared after an hour or two instead of travelling south.

However, the rain and storms that were forecast this morning have arrived... just not in Austin smiley - cross As I write they're passing by to the west, over the Hill Country and all the way to the Mexico border, and also to the east, but so far east they'd miss Houston on their current trajectory. I've just noticed the first few inklings of some development to the north, around Jarell, Killeen and Waco though, so we might still get something.

I just hope that the promised lack of scorchio and cooler minimums for the next several days doesn't also pass us by. It hasn't dropped below 80° all night.

Even though there's only one scorchio in the forecast (so far), those 99s might as well be for all the difference it makes when there's no air conditioning at work smiley - cross But yesterday's lower temperature is noticeable here this morning because the thermostat on my a/c control shows 82 instead of the 84 or 85 it has been for the past couple of weeks.

"July 2018 goes down in the books as our 7th warmest July on record with an average temperature 3.7 degrees warmer than normal. The average high was 99.3. Fortunately, it was a wetter-than-normal July with 4.02", a surplus of 2.14" at Camp Mabry. The story at the Airport was much drier with only 1.26" in total, a deficit of 1.18"."

I'm not sure what's been going on with the record maximum/minimum figures for the past few days. I must have got stuck on one day somewhere and not noticed. The record maximum for today and yesterday is 107, both in 2011.
