I've been in San Antonio for a couple of days seeing Dewey (and the former Mrs Gosho, but mostly Dewey smiley - cat). A terrific thunderstorm came through around 2am and woke everyone up. It looks like it passed over Austin about two hours later, and so far today we've already had more than an inch and a half of rain, with a slight chance of severe weather this afternoon.

And it looks like it'll be cold enough to light a fire in the fireplace on Christmas Day smiley - biggrin

And as I was posting that, a piece came on the radio about how this year would have been the warmest on record (and still might be - it's close) if not for the cool weather associated with Harvey. We just went the longest period on record without a freeze - January 1st to December 6th, and although we didn't have exceptionally high temperatures during the summer (but an above average number of scorchios), it's the abnormally warm winter, hardly a winter at all, we had earlier this year that made the average temperature this year so high.

Yesterday morning I woke up at stupid o'clock again. I don't mean between 4am and 5am. That's just normal for me now. I mean before 4am. So after tossing and turning for half an hour I decided to just get up. I checked the timetables and found there was a bus that could get me to work early (I was scheduled to clock in at 8am), which meant I could leave early, but I had to scramble to catch it and didn't have time for a weather report (or breakfast, which I ate at work). So here's two days-worth.

And I clocked out plenty early and don't have to go back for ten days smiley - biggrin

"In the East, it could be the COLDEST New Year’s Eve on record. Perhaps we could use a little bit of that good old Global Warming that our Country, but not other countries, was going to pay TRILLIONS OF DOLLARS to protect against. Bundle up!" -That blithering Cheeto occupying the White House.

He just demonstrated that he can't tell the difference between weather and climate, yet thinks he knows better than NASA, NOAA and 98% of actual climate scientists.

When will be rid of this ass-hat!?

Every debate on climate science, or empire, or whatever, must now include at least one utter clown, who is there to waste everyone else’s time so they can’t have a meaningful conversation." http://twitter.com/alexvtunzelmann/status/946725817228374017

Hmmm. I had to move from Firefox to Chrome for h2g2 because Firefox kept logging me out every time I closed the browser and then I had to wade through several Captchas (not always with a result) to log back in. This morning, in Chrome, I was taken to the login page when trying to reply to the previous post and asked to complete my registration with my password. I hope this isn't a sign of things to come. There are only so many browsers in the world (and on my PC). I'm certain that if I try Tor it'll be a bloody Captcha every time.

Next time you you're asked to log in when replying to a post, try going back a page, refreshing that, then hitting reply again.

That always works for me.

I'll remember that. What also usually works when I get the you-need-to-be-logged-in-to-reply message (not the one I got yesterday) is going back to the conversation and replying to a different post. Either way, no problems this morning so that must have been a h2g2 glitch.

Last night, and for the second time this winter, we had a snowfall. Only the merest dusting, but snowflakes all the same.

I've been locked out all night. I may still be locked out on my phone and my laptop. Fortunately, my tablet is still logged in. I don't believe I changed my password here when I started using a password manager out of fear of being locked out. (That and I consider this site a low security priority, unlike banking or other personally significant sites.)

If I'm still unable to log in from my laptop later, I'll have to consider resetting my password.

Last night I just assumed the site was down for maintenance or due to server issues. But this morning I checked the recent activity list on the Pliny front page and saw others were still posting and realized the problem was personal.
