Got up to 101 downtown and at Camp Mabry again today. Still no let-up in the eight day forecast smiley - sadface I'm beginning to feel like an LA weatherman - how many different ways can you find to say 'hot and sunny'? smiley - headhurts

Downtown made it up to 100° again today, but Camp Mabry got up to 102/38.9, and the heat index was a good deal higher than that. It felt like it too when I was out there briefly this afternoon and then when I went home at 6pm.

Right now it's a quarter to eleven at night and the temperature is still 92/33.3 - 98/36.7 with the heat index smiley - headhurts It'll probably be just as warm tomorrow night when I have to walk home from work cos the buses stop running at about 9.30pm on a Sunday smiley - cross

Nope. The way the weather's been here you wouldn't know what was going on 500 miles off to the east. I reckon Katrina would only have needed to be about 100-150 miles further west for us to have been underneath the outer bands of cloud though, and considering that Austin is less than 200 miles from the Gulf coast, if its track had taken it 400-500 miles further west, we'd have been pretty well smiley - bleeped here in south central Texas smiley - yikes I dread to think what it would have done to Austin smiley - sadface

It got up to 101/38.3 at the airport today, and 102/38.9 downtown and at Camp Mabry. I can't remember now whether that makes it 14 or 15 days of triple digit temperatures so far this year.

Didn't quite make it to 100 at any of the reporting stations in Austin today, but we're currently up to 18 days of triple digit heat at ABIA and 16 at Camp Mabry. Sounds like a lot (and it's even more if you take into account the heat index), but I think there have been years with 40+ and even 50+ 100° days during the course of the summer, and even though August is the hottest month, September is by no means cool or even mild, and the hottest day ever experienced in Austin since records began was September 12th 2000 (112/44.4), my first Austin summer. Coincidentally, the temperature record for today was also in 2000 - 107

It was just gorgeous this morning smiley - bigeyes The temperature at Camp Mabry actually dipped below 70/21.1 last night... by one whole degree to 69/20.5, but it felt so fresh when I got up and opened the balcony door, with Christopher Martin-Jenkins giving me ball-by-ball commentary from the Oval smiley - biggrin

We're still going to get into the low to mid 90s though (low to mid 30s C), which is the forecast for the forseeable future, and although it's relatively dry today, the humidity is forecast to increase during the next few days and there could be some rain over the weekend.

I really fancy some fish and chips right now smiley - drool

It rained today smiley - biggrin I woke up to the sound of thunder this morning around 8am; it was still raining when I went to work at 10.30am; it was still raining when I took a break and went outside at about 2pm. We've had about half an inch of pluvious today, and what's more we didn't even get to 80/26.6 smiley - bigeyes

We should be back into the 90s by Tuesday, but it's definitely cooling down at last. I can tell by the position I have to set my shower tap at to get a comfortably warm stream. During the winter it's at about 3 o'clock, while during the summer it's more like half past five (the further anti-clockwise you turn it the more hot water you get). During the summer, the ground that the pipes run through warms up so much that it's actually quite difficult to get cold water out of them sometimes, and it means that less hot water is needed in the shower.

Well, here we are - more than halfway through September (in fact Saturday was the Harvest Moon unless I'm mistaken)... and we're stil hitting 100 bloody degrees smiley - cross Sort of. The mercury reached 99 on Saturday but the heat index was around 104/40. Same tomorrow (Sunday) And Monday. And Tuesday. And Wednesday. However, by next weekend - by which time of course, we'll officially be into Autumn, what with Thursday being the equinox and all - the temperatures are forecat to be somewhat cooler smiley - biggrin Yeah - it's only going to be around 93° Oh be still my beating heart

That's still four degrees more than it's bloody well supposed to be at this time of year smiley - steam I think I can count on one hand the number of days since the end of May that the temperature has been below normal.

Need I say it? Triple digit temperatures at all three reporting stations (downtown, Camp Mabry and ABIA) today. Upper 90s tomorrow (Friday), and even Saturday, when the hurricane is going to be at its closest, is forecast to be 93. Sunday has a forecast of 96, so if there's a lot of rain on Saturday it's going to be to be pretty damn sticky and humid around here on Sunday smiley - sadface

Yeah, I'm working Friday and Saturday. I don't think people are all that put off by the weather around here - there are always news stories about muppets who try to drive across flooded low-water crossings during heavy rain, and now that Rita is headed so far to the east of Austin we're not going to see too much severe weather.

We were also kinda worried that if Saturday's ACL Fest fixtures were cancelled, a lot of people might show up at the Drafthouse wanting to watch a movie instead but I doubt that's going to happen now, although any residents who were planning a day outside might now decide to have a day inside and see a film.
