I think mention was made of Elmer Bernstein a few weeks ago when Jerry Goldsmith dropped off the twig... well now Elmer's gone too

Charlie Waller too. Who he? A name I would probably never have heard of if I hadn't spent 4 years working in a CD store in Texas. Personally I can't stand bluegrass, but apparently Charlie Waller was something of a legend http://www.npr.org/features/feature.php?wfId=3860038

Can't say I'd ever heard of her. Or heard her, even.

You might recognise it - it was all over the radio at the time.

I immediately recognised the name but couldn't remember the song.
So young.

Ah, *that* Gloria. I remember now. For some reason, I associated the song with the execrable Jonathan King ("a person who, in more enlightened times, would have been burned at the stake" - John Peel). Now, why is that?

Oh I recognise it now She had a great voice, didn't she?
I was thinking of G-L-0-R-I-A sung by Van the man, but most famously - well in my mind at least - from Return to the Forbidden Planet
Did Jonathan King have anything to do with that?

I hadn't heard about Cloughie. He was a bit of a male harridan, wasn't he? Too outspoken for me. Reminded me a bit of Fred Trueman, Geoff Boycott - except a different sport. Obviously.

A few weeks ago I heard an interview with Christopher Reeve on the World Service, and he explained how he's come close to death on a few occasions as a result of complications to do with his paralysis or experimental treatments, so today's announcement of his death didn't come as such a surprise as it might have done
