Feisor - -0- Generix I made it back - sortof ...

My name is Feisor and I am an ACE (Assistant Community Editor) here at h2g2. It's my job to welcome you to the site and hopefully show you around a little. I AM a real person, not an automated reply not an automated reply not an automated reply smiley - laugh.

Welcome to h2g2 – not just the friendliest on-line community but an incredibly huge, living, breathing guide to Life, the Universe and Everything. It’s compiled by researchers just like you and it's something you can take part in. You can write entries on all manner of subjects, and if it's something you think would look good in our Edited Guide (where all the best research goes), you can submit it to Peer Review Take a look at the <./>writing-guidelines</.> for more information on that. smiley - smiley

I hope when you get to know us a little better you'll open your personal space and tell us a little about yourself - but there's no rush - and it's not compulsory smiley - smiley

We ACEs are volunteers here to assist new researchers so if you have any questions please don't hesitate to ask.
You can leave a message on my space just by clicking on my name at the top of this message or by hitting the reply button below - it won't hit back (usually).

I have made a "Hints and Links for New Researchers" page at <./>A719840</.> - if you go there it will lead you to all sorts of places which will help find your way around and get to know this wonderful place. It should keep you busy for a while smiley - biggrin

For a quick reference I recommend that you also read and bookmark this great page from Alex Tufty Ashman – click here ----> A28749630smiley - spacesmiley - ok

Oh, and don’t forget to bookmark not only your space but the H2G2 <./>FrontPage</.> - it’s a great way to stay in touch with what’s happening and leads to all sorts of corners which you may otherwise miss.

Do some exploring and you'll find that the site has everything from the nonsense japing to debates on any number of diverse subjects. Many lasting friendships and relationships have been born on hootoo. It's kind of an online pub and encyclopaedia.

I am sure that you will love this community as much as we do smiley - biggrin There's lots of things to see, clubs to join and people to meet - please don't be shy - just jump right in - this is a friendly place. But be careful - it can become quite addictive - believe me I know smiley - laugh

smiley - cheers

Enjoy!!
Have fun!!!
and above all smiley - dontpanic!!!

Take your time .... one of the nice things about this place is that there's no rush, you can respond if and when you wish smiley - biggrin

As it says above, you're welcome smiley - biggrin

Don't forget to open your space - even just "hi" will do - you can always change it and add to it later, It's a great way for people to find out a little about who they are speaking to, and you can find out a little about them by just clicking on the name at the top of their message smiley - biggrin

If you have any questions about hootoo (as we call h2g2) or need any help just drop me a line here and I'll get back to you asap smiley - ok

Have fun

smiley - cheers

Hi Feisor,
Well I filled out my "profile" , and had a great time reading the front pages. Tried to join in acouple of topics/conversations, and read some more.
I have 2 questions at the moment please.
1 Is there an area for things written in a similar style to DNA, I found one, called , "How to stretch a cat " I think. ? Or a section for "humorous writing"?
2 I visited a BBC page which had a link to a site where the continued funding of H2G2 was called into question . Is there a question mark over H2G2's continuation?
Thanks OOHTM

I see that you have opened your space smiley - applause

You might also like to check out "Spicing Up Your User Page" at A690518 for lots of tips smiley - ok

Second answer first ...

I think that most parts of the BBC are under constant review smiley - sigh But hootoo did undergo a detailed analysis and came out way ahead. They decided that it was a unique and worthy community to keep supporting and even put in place a program to rework the layout etc. While some of us are a little unsure about the changes we tend to agree that some updating (especially the under-the-hood stuff) could do with a revamp. It's nice to know that the Beeb values the site smiley - biggrin

"Is there an area for things written in a similar style to DNA," - No, not as such - Douglas said right from the start that it was not his aim to foster a lot of copycat writers smiley - biggrin but there is The Underguide which fosters writing which doesn't quite fit into the Guide guidelines. I'm sure that if you look around that area, you will find lots of interesting stuff smiley - laugh Start your search at A1103329 .... Good Luck smiley - goodluck

Hi Feisor, how are you?
I was wondering if there was an easy way to move a written piece from microsoft office word onto h2g2 ?
Should I just re-type it?smiley - sadface
Copy/cut/paste won't move it anywhere on the internet, it's like having Lego with all different sizes, who wants that?(mini rant)
Thanks

Hmmm ....

I don't know what the problem is ... I regularly cut and paste from Word to hootoo. Is it a simple Word doc or is it a graphic?

Hi Feisor,
Well, I put in a piece to the AWW. smiley - biggrin I think it fits the underguide, but who knows?!
I am certainly enjoying reading all the well researched, well written, easy to read pieces in the guides, though I was worried a bit about the one called "one week vigilante". Things written in b&w can lose their "tone". I guess that piece was meant as humour ,but it was scary if not.
There are enough people out there who might miss the "humour" and take it seriously.
Not something to joke about.
