A... journal? Wot's that then?
King Cthulhu of Balwyniti Started conversation Nov 25, 2004
It's... been a *little* while since my last journal entry, hasn't it? Naughty naughty! But then, it's been quite a while since I've been around hootoo much... it's scary, so many people here now don't even *know* about Rupert, nevermind the pre-BBC era. But for all that it's not what it once was, it's not exactly morphed into some terrible misformed ... ah, there's a smiley I haven't used for too long! So anyway, what's been happening... well, not much Very very briefly, ellie and I moved out together to somewhere where we didn't have internet access, then we were living seperately for a short while (which was HORRIBLE) until the w**k situation improved, then we found ourselves a great little apartment (not one of those awful modern 'open-plan' apartments which look like excessively neat closets) where we *finally* got internet access back (but only dial-up ) and I completed my studies. Well, supposedly finished my studies, until I decided (due to ellie's prompting) to do an Honours year, which will give me a BA (Hons.) instead of just the BA (which I have now, certificate on the wall and everything!). So that's why I've been insanely busy these last few months... read read read study study study, it's been ridiculous... but it's been worth it, I'm studying amazingly interesting stuff (the universalisability of human rights, if you want to know) as well as just plain bloody difficult stuff, like the possibility of knowledge and how to define it, and just what *is* the self anyway? I've come through the first semester on a first-class honours average, and my thesis (10000 words) is progressing okay, even if I get scared at times that what I'm hoping to be able to do, I won't be able to manage. But that's philosophy for you! You always seem to end up making a contribution by asking a question, rather than answering one. So... any questions?

Yes, could you just explain that last bit again...... you know, the bit after the initial "It's..."?

Oh, and I'm pretty sure you made up one of the terms in there...... no-one's ever heard of "dial-up" internet access!
Now, as to the universalisabiltyousness of human rights (Yes, that is the correct spelling, I looked it up in "Philosophy & Philosophical Double-Talk for Dummies" by I.M. Afool), well I look forward to chatting to you about it......... after about 35 s.

I'd love to, but I'm not sure I understand myself And when are you going to start calling yourself Prince Sir Evil Roy anyway?

Silly ER, the King doesn't drink ...or do you mean you? Ah yes. You after 35 I can believe .
As for dial-up...I'm staying at my mum's, in the country, with a whopping 28.8 kbps. It's a hard hard world.

Hi Cafram. Long time, no see.
*tosses in a cheap for the originator of the thread*
Is it not inappropriate to carry the title of "Sir" (denoting knighthood) alongside the title of "Prince"? As an American, I don't understand all this royal baloney.

G'day sunny! I think that you can assume from all that that I'm fine, yes
Yes, somehow ER after 35 s isn't terribly difficult to envisage...
Thanks for the cheap aw And yes, I dare say it *is* inappropriate to have both Prince and Sir, but I'm afraid I don't understand what point you were trying to make

35 s is just a leisurely lunch.......
Will you people *please* stop referring to this fictional "dial-up" thingie, you're freaking me out with tiny little numbers like 28.8 kbps!
And I don't think it inappropriate to be both "Sir" and "Prince". I was knighted in the Thingite kingdom, Royalised???? in Balwyniti and never the train shall meet.

I like the surly Prince, it seems right somehow Or Sirly, if that seems better
I'm surprised you'd even bother to pop away from your desk for a measly 35 s ER!

28.8? Hah! I laugh in the face of 28.8! Today it's running at a speedy 26.4!!

King Cthulhu of Balwyniti Posted Nov 26, 2004
This tells me it's running at 115.2, which frankly seems some sort of a miracle on a 56k modem
Oh, and ER, I think I'm glad that the trains shan't meet

By any stretch of the imagination, it could hardly be said to be "running" at 26.4, Cafram - more like "ambling" or "strolling".
It's quite possible for a 56k modem to report that it is running at 115 or so, it has to do with the mode in which it is running - Duplex or some other sort of mode I think it is..... I can't exactly remember the details.

I think that 'stumbling' might even be what you're after
Yeah, iprimus markets something called 'ispeed' which is supposed to take advantage of much the same idea I think (whcih I haven't signed up for, by the way) but I've never noticed anything like that speed, even with australian servers...
