Hi,

Since you're relatively close to the Ozarks, I thought I'd make another plea for you to attend the Meet in July. smiley - grovel It would be wonderful to meet you in person.

I would love to go! What's the date? I don't know if I'll have enough vacation time left, but R. and I need a *real* vacation.

My mom's talked me into going up with her to Washington State for a few days around July 4th. I think I'm going as the token adult... smiley - winkeye which is a bit frightening, actually.

smiley - sadface Rats. The meet is July 3and 4. But I'm closer than Washington.

We're going on a ghost light hunt. Theres a really famous one near here. Are you going to be able to see ghost lights in Washington? smiley - whistle

> But I'm closer than Washington.

smiley - laugh Yes, you are - but nobody lays a guilt trip on you like Mom! She pulled out the big guns for this one... "I won't be around much longer... You know how much fun we used to have in Washington... All your cousins are up there and you haven't seen them in forever..." Sheesh. My grandmother used to pull this on my mom - you'd think that she would have learned not to behave the same way with her own children.

However, Mom is springing for a plane ticket for me, so I'm not going to complain. And to be honest, I wouldn't want Mom adventuring around by herself. She's always been absent-minded, but it's getting worse as she gets older.

> Are you going to be able to see ghost lights in Washington?

Oooh... is that like the ghost lights in Marfa? We might be able to spot some, but I think that magical combo of elevation and refraction doesn't work up there.

Similar to the Marfa lights, I believe. There are several legends about what causes them. The Corp of Engineers investigated them and couldn't find a source.

Seriously, have a great time with your family in Washington. Perhaps we'll be able to get together another time. smiley - smiley

I certainly hope so! I've missed several good opportunities for meet-ups. Someday soon...

I've heard several theories about the Marfa lights, but my favorite is that it's a nuclear laser fusion device (!) that went berserk in 1943 and was lost in space and time. I tend toward the more scientific theory of the light beams being bent by hot air meeting cool air and traveling over the horizon, like a mirage.

There isn't really that much to see around here, so I thought it might be fun to go in search of the Spook Light.

Yes, we must get together some day. It is my goal in life to meet my internet friends in person. I am always in search of programs for the library. Maybe you could bring up your masks some time and talk about them. smiley - smiley That way I could pay you for your travel expenses and you could stay with me. (I'm not allowed to pay for programs - just expenses. smiley - sadface)

That's not a bad idea! It'd be great for Mardi Gras, or maybe Halloween. Lots of people have asked me if I do presentations and demonstrations - so far, I've been too busy making masks to think about it. Mostly they're theater groups, although I had some doll makers ask if I did workshops.

I've just about decided to write a guide entry on masks. Writing always helps get my ducks in a row. Then I can call back all these people!

Well, think about it. smiley - biggrin Your masks are really special. I don't think anyone in this area makes anything like them. If so, I've missed them.

Maybe you could have some masks in various stages of completion so you could show them the process. And then we could have some simple version for them to make and take home. I think we could come up with a great program.

And of course we could display your masks. I don't know if you'd sell any, but we could try.

I'd like to do something like what you describe for my website - take pictures in various stages, then write step-by-step instructions.

I haven't seen anything quite like mine... but there are a few other mask-makers out there. I visit their sites for inspiration and to check up on the competition.

This is the first site I found, and it's still pretty cool.

This guy's pretty good, although I think my eyehole shapes are more attractive.

I like this guy's ideas. I'm still working on a version of the Green Man, and he's got some great ones.

Always worth a try! I've sold some in surprising locations.

Hey Lentilla. I'm going to be in your area next month. Driving to San Antonio on the 20th. Then we'll be in Arlington on the 24th for the final Rangers home game. Nothing is scheduled for the 25th or the day of the 26th. Then I have personal business in Dallas from the evening of the 26th through the morning of the 28th. When we leave Dallas that morning, we're heading for the Grand Canyon.

I haven't been to the Kimbell for eons, so I want to do that while we're there. Fancy a cuppa?

Ooh, the Grand Canyon... I've been there several times, and always find something new to look at.

Sure! I might be able to meet up with you on Saturday at the Kimbell. I know they have a hoity-toity little restaurant. (I'm not sure how that would work with your food allergies!) Drop me a line at jensequitur-at-yahoo-dot-com and we'll logisticize later...
