I know it sounds like a casserole...
Remember when we drove past Bonito Lake, and how horrified I was at its condition? Today they had to open the spillway because it's full of rainwater. Two campers are stranded on the other side of the Rio Bonito, above the lake, because there's just no way to get them out. The Rio Bonito is characterized on the police scanner as "running wild."
I took some pics you might have seen earlier of the flooding in Lincoln on Tuesday. Today I've been out photographing the Rio Bonito . Pics to follow.

Good to hear the lake has recovered. Is the level back at the treeline?
A couple campers have an adventure...!
I neglected to mention the Rio Grande, but when I crossed it on the way home, it was energetic and muddy.
Anyway, I hope you're keeping dry...it'd take a large flood to reach your level on the slope, I expect.

I'll go up to Bonito Lake tomorrow afternoon if the weather allows, and see where the waterline is.

I'm confused. I thought the land to the north of you slopes down, so the water would flow that way.

But my house is lower than the roadbed south of it, so once the gully overflows and crosses the yellow line, the water has to get past my house to reach the river.

No, although it would have liked to at one point. My neighbors across the street whose houses back up against the south hills actually fared worse because they were basically at the foot of waterfalls. One couple had to stop up their rear doors with pottery clay. Another could hear water running UNDER their house, back to front.
I went to Bonito Lake yesterday and took pictures. Watch this space!

Wow, I understand why you were so upset last month. The lake looks much better. Wait for the silt to settle, and it'll really be nice.
Was that one of those inch-per-minute cloudbursts? I experienced a couple of those driving through Arizona. A true challenge to see the road or anything else.

Yes. they're disconcerting. I was driving up a steep hill in one of those on Saturday and, what with the water running down the hill, my car actually started to slue sideways.
It's just hard to get used to the humidity, now that it rains hard every day.
