You sound like a pretty cool dude to me, Xantief, but I somehow can't see you as a librarian. Being a card-carrying introvert myself, I typically try to keep a low profile. Just pop in every now and then when I see somthing that grabs me, like the Mojave phone booth.

Hi J, [if I may fragment your name like that]
Here are some Mojave photos, taken on a fine July morning. I was passing through, heading home from the US hootoo meet in Missouri.

There are many pleasant surprises here....
Thanks for dropping by!
I checked your PS for details, noticed you are new here, and I wish to offer my welcome. I've been here over a year now, produced a handful of Edited entries, but I spend most of my time here on conversation forums [fora], and an occasional creative writing project in the 'Alternate Writing Workshop', where the poets and dreamers live.
'Card-carrying introvert'? You'll fit in fine. I've managed quite well, myself.

PS I imagine myself as a librarian, and the next thing that unfolds in my imagination is a picture of many untidy stacks of books on the floor. That's my [non] sense of organization.

J will do just fine, Steve.
Nice photos; thanks for sharing. Thought maybe I could just barely catch a glimpse of the Mojave phone booth, or maybe it was just its shadow, in one of them, but couldn't be sure about that.
Thanks also for the welcome. Glad to hear that maybe an introvert can fit in with this bunch.
I just put my first entry in for review with the Alternative Writing Workshop, so will see what happens. It's all new to me. See ya.

J, I am attracted to 'community' projects like this one. Being a certified introvert myself, I find the experience therapeutic, as do many others here. Interesting people, creative people, expressive people, educated and discerning people.
For the past several months, Phred and his wife have travelled the US, taking their time, seeing the sights, and uploading some fantastic photos from their journeys. Additionally, I acknowledge Phred as a master in the genre of travelogs and such. And a playful wit.
There's been a group of us formed in Phred's wake, keeping in touch on a nearly daily basis and discussing whatever comes to mind. There's no way to reckon how many lurkers there are on Phred's threads, but many of the correspondents are Americans. Our overseas friends are with us in spirit, helping us along....
I met Phred and several other new friends at Hypatia's home in Missouri during the 'Hillbilly Meet' last month. Hypatia is the duly elected but essentially ceremonial President of h2g2, and she hosted a 4th of July shindig for those that could get there. Good times were had by all.
Anyway, both Phred U1293358 and Hyp U200042 have spawned some cool discussions from their journals.
F2011264?thread=2416953 'Off to a wet start' is my continuing favorite.

I appreciate your kindness and generosity in opening this door to give a newbie a peek at some of the busy and interesting things happening behind the scenes of h2g2. Never having been a habitue of "chat rooms," I find it somewhat mind boggling. I'm perpetually amazed at where these little keyboards can take us. Seems there's just no limit. So many doors, so many paths, so little time. I'll likely be found more often among the anonymous "lurkers" than elsewhere, possibly showing up only now and then as needed to answer the occasional random incoming call from the Mojave phone booth.
