Of course... now that I think about it... perhaps the priority should be the languages that aren't so well represented... meaning that it is easier, perhaps for a Dutch person to find some linguistic support already than it is for the Zulu-speaker who for all s/he knows, will be lost here forever without a comprehending soul in sight...

hmmm

Dead right, though of course the more obscure the language , the harder it will be for us to find a speaker, so I think we'll have to go with what we can get - just always remembering to ask if anyone has any "unusual" languages ...

I realized that too... a bit difficult to get one's head around that... the more you need it, the less you have it, and the less you can acquire it. It's that whole vicious circle complex that seems to govern my life and the world from where I see it.

Anyone else have that feeling sometimes?

Anyways, for now I suppose I shall continue trying to flush out interested helpers and to work on what we already do have.

lol

Yes.

The other times, it's more a feeling of a very very long, straight line with no end in sight and no indication of where it's going!

Or a triangle, where I never know what will happen when I turn the next corner, but can be certain I will eventually end up right back where I started... smiley - biggrin

I have prepared a two-oclock-in-the-morning-after-the-party French translation of the Don't Panic Help Centre. It will certainly need some correction by me and by somebody more easy with French than I, but I will post it here for general approval as it is not a long page.

Other than the obvious errors, please let me know what you think, since I am pretty sure Kes understands French as well...

This is the kind of thing that I assume you meant, Kes...

Thanks for the compliment!
I checked through it - it reads well. My only suggestion would be for the sentence:

savoir, voici quoi faire:"

I would have stayed with "si vous voulez savoir.."

Otherwise it does the job nicely. If we can find a native French speaker, they could polish it (French polish?) but it's a great start. The only snag I can see is the requirement to attend a party prior to translating each item ... It's tough, but someone's got to do ti smiley - winkeye

Don't worry *hic* I'm up to the job! smiley - winkeye

It would certainly do nicely with a bit of a lacquer...

I will ask Sebasto to have a look, after I do my own dirty work and correct what I can. Thanks for the suggestion - I agree wholeheartedly.

MY only beef is having a regular keyboard and having to add international accents! What a pain to have to either memorize the ALT-Numberpad character numbers, or go through each one individually each time... Writing them down, of course, would make things too easy. You wouldn't know it, but I am a full-fledged member of the procrastinator's society (or I will be when somebody gets around to making me one smiley - smiley )

I collect accented words in a .txt file, and have it open in a handy window ... then I just copy & paste them in as I go. It doesn't take too long after a few tries ...

Thank YOU for the compliment (complement... ummm I always forget which is which... I'm going to stick with my first instinct...).

I am taking French and hope to have that as one of my teachable subjects, so I should hope I could write at least passably well in the language... sometimes I am not so sure though! But you have reassured me for this time. smiley - smiley

You're more than welcome ... and your instinct is correct.
Compliment = saying something nice
Complement = making something up to its full measure, or fitting together well. smiley - winkeye

Thank you - sometimes, I suppose all it takes is a little thought... which usually, for me, enters after the fact, unfortunately.

I looked at the word passingly after I'd posted, and suddenlymy memory of semantics and morphemes rushed back...

compleme --> complete --> complement

Ah well...

thanks!

P.S. - I've taken on another partial project, and potentially yet another one. Perhaps soon I shall know what it's like to be really embroiled up to your neck in the Guide. I'm helping Fragilis with the Musicians Guild pages! (perhaps i can get in a shameless plug there about my Fauré article, when I've finished smiley - smiley )

Great! I found the Guild a good source of help for my music project.
