h2g2 The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy: Earth Edition

OK, how it works is this.

This idea is inspired by the 4th plinth in London's Trafalgar Square - one which is currently empty and has no statue. The artist Anthony Gormley suggested that members of the public should stand on it for an hour at a time and do or say anything they like (so long as it's legal). This project started today (July 6) and will take place throughout the summer.

So, my idea is to have a "4th plinth" feature on the h2g2 Post Front Page. Throw open a small part of the editorial space to a random applicant and give them a limited amount of space (e.g. 100 words) to say what they like, so long as it doesn't breach the house rules. Alternatives might be to allow them to design a certain-size graphic, or let them have a GUIDE-ML text box of a certain size (to format as they wish.

OK, over to you. Will this suggestion put h2g2 Researchers on a pedestal or will people throw rotten fruit at it?

Eh? What's the difference between that and just accepting regular submissions where, y'know, people can just write/draw anything they want?

When you say 'random applicant', maybe it could even be a random Researcher? Pick an active Researcher totally at random. The possibilities are endless...
