h2g2 The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy: Earth Edition

Every now and then we get a nostalgic thread in Askh2g2 about the best h2g2 conversations of the past - the most recent is "H2 Threads that would deserve being printed" at F19585?thread=6713423

I suggested on that thread that maybe these should have some sort of permanent home - an entry listing them, perhaps with potted summaries or highlighted quotes.

Now, I believe this should be held somewhere fairly permanent and easy to find, and my thoughts came to the h2g2 Post. If I (or anyone else) were to knock up an entry listing these, would the h2g2 Post be prepared to host/maintain it (a bit like they do with the clubs & societies)? I believe it would be low maintenance - maybe encourage people to post suggestions on the page and then sweep them up every few months or so.

Well, I don't think we'd have time to plow through all the threads in search of "classics" and finding quotes to highlight...

I don't expect many changes. These are just the 'classic' threads after all.

Still, it's only a suggestion. Feel free to dismiss it.

Does "maintenance" mean we read through every convo on every forum on hootoo and add them if we think they're "classics"? That doesn't sound very low-maintenance to me...

I create the initial entry (from the current thread)

The h2g2 Post publishes it regularly (frequency to be determined)

Readers add suggestions for new threads to be featured, by creating conversations attached to the entry.

Someone checks through these conversations on a regular basis (frequency to be determined), updates the entry and republishes it in the h2g2 Post.

Now, of course anyone could write the entry and put it on their PS, but it's always a popular subject, as well as a useful historical resource. I don't think it's the sort of thing the Editors would be interested in, but maybe the h2g2 Post, being a community newspaper and all, might be?

I think it might be doable on one condition: suggesting new threads and finding amusing quotes in them should be entirely voluntary, done by researchers, not staff.

If was to create a page for it, suggestions for additions should be posted to that page, and would then be included in the next issue.
