Joy!

Hows cool is this?!

Yesterday a friend of mine gave me a present.

He's apparently had it for ages, after he "retrieved" it from a special effects company that he used to work for. He was about to throw it out... until he remembered my particular feelings about all things "Douglassy."

The thing in question is a copy of the screenplay for the film. It's the first revised draft, with revisions by Karey Kilpatrick, but the as far as I can tell, it seems to suggest that the majority of it is Douglas'work (the "screenplay by Douglas Adams" is a hint). I think i might have just acquired a version of how he actually saw the film, in his own words... Which is rather cool.

Exceptionally cool in fact, as it still has the chat about the babel fish in it, the absence of which did rock my faith in the film!

So... I'm dubious as to how many of you will actually see this, but hey! I thought i'd boast a bit anyway!

Dissertation Blues!

Isn't procrastination a Joy?!

I'm currently pulling an all nighter to write up my masters dissertation. It's on Reconciliation and Relationship Quality in Barbary Macaques... if that sounds interesting then please wait until around october time before asking me about the details!

I did the field work for it in France, which was very nice... but in my three month absence I appear to have forgotten everything i had figured out about GuideML... oh hum

Oh... and yes for those of you who had noticed... no you're not meant to get monkeys in France!

Hmmm i think i would like to see a monkey smiley though...

Oh well... back to work smiley - headhurts

The Streets Concert - Alexandra Palace

*This entry originally came just before the next one, but once I’d posted it, I re-read it and was appalled by my grammar, spelling, sentence structure, the lot... I couldn’t find any way to edit the entry, and there was no way it was going to stay its un-edited state… So I copied, deleted, edited and pasted anew (if that makes sense?)*

Although not as good as the DNA lecture, this was also fun (in a very different way) and a lot more random.

I'm not a *huge* fan of The Streets. Some of my friends like them, and I've heard the albums. They're not too bad, but some of their tunes get on my nerves, especially when overplayed by the media... I've considered going to see them live before, but I'm usually too skint to bother seriously about it.

This time was different though. This time, the ticket was of my favourite variety: The Freebie.

Who am I to pass up free gigs? No financial status is good enough to justify an action as silly as passing up free gig tickets. So off we went; me and my mate (of the generous nature) on a mighty, mighty journey across London from south to north.

As an aside, this journey was tinged with joy and sadness. Joy because I found out that an off peak travel card allows free travel on buses in all zones, and that the zones on the front only apply to the tube. The sadness came from the fact that no one told me this earlier. I swore. All that money wasted! I believe I swore again.

Alexandra Palace is huge. It is immense. I still think the Barrowlands is a better venue due to atmosphere and bouncy floor-ness, but this place was huge...

I think the gig was some kind of MTV sponsored thingy, so they had random little British MC's who did a wee head to head thing at times during the warm up. T'was quite amusing.

Randomly during the warm up (which lasted ages and ages and ages) an unknown guitarist came on with another vocalist and started playing some nice wee acoustic tunes. Then he started to play some Libertines tunes and I quickly realised that it was Pete Doherty wearing a mighty hat. Soon, everyone had figured it out (especially when he took the hat off...) and much camera phone action was had all round. All this paled in insignificance however, when the next be-hatted gentleman wandered on stage to join Mr Doherty. Shane MacGowan entered, stage right, wearing a very cool top hat and proceeded to play “Dirty Old town” with Pete Doherty and "band." Hey... I was impressed.

Can I just reiterate that this was all from a free ticket... oh yes!

The Streets came on after an age, and where very good. I enjoyed myself, even though I'm not a huge fan of theirs. I had a wee boogie, I had a wee drinky smiley - alesmiley - alesmiley - ale, all was good! They played a nice mix of first and second albums, and properly managed to get the crowd behind them which is always a bonus. I can't really give a proper account of what they played, because I don't know all the song names, and because it was one of those concerts where I just put my head down and danced. I was totally sober, I assure you!

Hmmm... The journey back was far too long though, especially for one assmiley - drunkas I. I think I must have spent a small fortune in those chocolate machines on the tube platform... (in the words of a great man, "hmmm... chocolate...smiley - drool " smiley - choc)

All hail the free tickets! Long may they continue to drop into my life at random intervals!

Look! No "new this week"

I was going to do the two previous entrys as one big "Hey look! No blank journal anymore" entry. But it turned out to be too big, because I ramble nonsense a lot. So there are now two entries on "my random couple of days" and this introdutory message, which is here under the guise of a celebration of my lack of "new this week" tag in the who's online thing. Woohoooo! smiley - bubbly
