Titania (gone for lunch)

Ongoing story for more than 4 months now of my ancles/ankles whatever swelling up, went to see a smiley - doctor who tested my blood pressure, EKG/ECG, heart- and lung X-ray, blood samples, urine smaples, ultra sound examination - nada, zip, zero.

I am getting smiley - bleep fed up with this condition - I recently managed to get a renewed rescription for... uh... pills that make your body rid itself of water.

When out of pills for a few days, the swelling got even worse.

I now get puffy from the slightest effort, I wake up in the middle of the night short of breath etc etc

It's been 4 weeks since I was last examined - I had hoped that the smiley - doctor in charge would have contacted me by now (pushed on by an online request from me made 8 days ago) but nothing.

My mother has consulted my 'healer' uncle (' because I'm a sceptic) who has said something about seeing a... a... zone therapist? Those poeple who press the soles of your feet?

By now, I think I'm willing to try *anything* no matter how crazy it sounds - because the 'traditional' medicine is doing nothing for me.

It sounds like you've been tested for all of the most likely things. How frustrating it all must be for you. smiley - cuddle You certainly need to find out what is causing it. Was the ultra sound to check for circulation in your legs?

I think your uncle is talking about what we call accupressure. Instead of using needles like in acupuncture, they apply pressure to the same points on the body. It would be worth a try. I don't see how it could possibly hurt you.

The shortness of breath at night is really troublesome. Have you thought about going to a medical college or someplace where they do research? Is there one near you?

The pills are known, as a family, as diuretics. That's why I take what I do, but they aren't really doing the job either. I sympathize.

I wish I had any words of wisdom, brain twin. I did some searching and found these non-tradional cures: http://www.earthclinic.com/CURES/edema.html Perhaps one of them will help.

Thanks all - I've tried pomegranate juice (no difference), pineapple juice (made the swelling worse) but not apple cider vinegar yet - but, since I got my prescription for the capsules I've been taking renewed I'll stick with them for now, even if they only seem to be able to reduce the swelling by around 1/3 - which is better than nothing, I suppose...

Ah, and a zone therapist presses various points on the soles of your feet, in the Swedish definition of at least...

Right now, I'm waiting for my wish to get rid of this condition to concur my scepticism...

Do you get any relief from elevating your legs?

You could even prop a couple of pillows under your ankles in bed. We went through edema with F after the veins were stripped out of his leg for the bypass surgery. It did help for him to keep his leg up as much as possible.

Elevated legs had zero effect (even though it has helped in the past, like when I broke my leg several years ago). It doesn't really surprise me though, since I've even tried sleeping wearing - uh - compressure(?) knee-socks and *still* woke up just as swollen as I had been when I went to bed.

See, this is a rather 'aggressive' swelling - it goes on non-stop, every single hour every single day...

Haven't had such swelling since I was pregnant... are your hormones in good order?

No idea, but one of the things the doctor asked me was if my period is regular - and it is...smiley - erm

I wonder if one can have one's hormone levels tested? But if it was that easy, I'm surprised I haven't been tested already smiley - erm

Hormones should be testable via blood sample. Ask them if they did already...

I was going to post a rant but it turned into a never-ending story, so I feel the need to keep it short.

Swelling worse, blood pressure all-time-high, jeans size increasing, still no test showing anything wrong with me, doubled dose of capsules.

New test this morning and a - uh - remittance? to a hospital to be expected - not sure what *they* will be looking for...

Sleeping problems, breathlessness - oh, and did I mention I've taken a break taking my anti-depressants since the first doctor I saw mentioned them as a possible reason for this condition? Five weeks whithout and counting - haven't noticed any difference in the swelling so far.

smiley - hug Boy, do you ever have my sympathy. I don't know whether 5 weeks is enough time to detox from a drug cross-effect. Edema really sucks, and I would guess that your heart and circulatory system will be the next thing the hospital examines.

Thank you.

I weighed myself Friday morning, and that was also an all-time-high smiley - yuk

I've realized that the worsening of the swelling is so slow and gradual that I've failed to notice it, so this morning I decided to measure my ankles in the morning.

28 April: 35 cm
